    How important are macro's?

How important are macros? Do we really need to count them? Or is it ok as long as your eating clean? I can put on mass by eating more brown rice and wheat bread then when I would like to cut up I Would only eat my carbs in the morning and post workout. Never got my bf down to 8% best would be around 10%. And when I Would bulk i'll be around 15-16%

    Little background

Iv been lifting for 6 yrs 3yrs consistently, and never really counted macros in my diet, A little background on me im 25 and used to be an amatuer basketball player here in Philippines.

    Stats:
    25 yrs old
    6'4"
    200lbs
    12-14% bf

I want to get big with around 220lbs and be like around 10-12% bf.

Any advise on nutrition would be open.

If you want to get down to 10% or lower, you have to count everything!

Macros are the most important aspect to eating in my opinion.

Read thru some of the threads around here and you will see.

    Welcome aboard!

Macros are... everything. I'd pay attention to macros more than anything else... if you just ate clean, regardless of how much, you could still get fat if you overate, or conversely eat too little. A well balanced macro profile = a well balanced diet.

Agree. Macros can make or break your goals.

How do you suggest I would compute my macros? And what would be best? 60/20/20? 50/30/20? I really have no idea I'm very sorry

    Thanks.

What are you going on about pal? You're telling me I can get all my carbs from milk and I'd be ok? Let's not be silly here... We get that a calorie is a calorie, we're talking about the source of your macros. Not all macronutrients are made equal.

    Mate

Sometimes, when attempting to join a community that has been together, and you are the new guy, sometimes it's better to sit back and assess the lay of the land, than it is to try and shove your weight around, and making statements that show us how little you know.

Sometimes it's better to keep one's mouth closed and keep us guessing at what you know...

....than it is to open one's mouth so that we know how little you do know!

We are all here to learn. But if you keep talking, you are not doing any listening.

Eatin clean is minding your sources. Eating complex carbs that are not derived from fructose, lactose and dextrose. "Good" fats if you will. Do you know what a complete protein is?

According to you, I can go on a McDonalds diet today.

Franny - I'm going to use this thread to give you a fair warning (sorry OP, but it's necessary) - I can promise you that if you come here with 'guns blazing' the way you are now, your stay here will be short. We're well aware of IIFYM and the like, and don't need parrots like you (let's be honest) coming over here pushing your agenda. To be honest, I'm bored to death with the topic and am not going to get into it. I'm also not going to dignify your ridiculous comments (milk and donuts) with a scientific response. IIFYM as it was intended is a sound dieting philosophy. It's guys like you who give it a bad name.

You've been warned. Keep up the trolling and you'll be gone fast, I promise.

Ok guys so now I know that macros are important. Im currently in india and diet has been a mess im going back to Philippines in 20 days so I taking this time to learn.

My question is what macro split would you guys recommend?

    Protein/carbs/fat=
    40/40/20?
    50/30/20?
    60/20/20?

I would like to bulk and minimize fat gain as much as possible. Any other suggestions are welcome

    Thanks!

Depends on how ur body handles them. I like to run 10% or less carbs, cutting or bulking. But I wouldn't recommend that out of the gate. Try something like a 50/25/25, see how that woks, and just ply with it. Adjusting up and down carb/fat ratio. Keeping as best of a log as u can and monitoring ur progress.

Use 1.5g protein per pound of lbm then split the remaining cals 60/40

Hah, surely calorie us not a calorie and never was. Net caloric balance is highly dependent on the macro split - body stores dietary fats most easily while 25% of protein cals is utilized for processing. Matching macros is totally diff thing, but how could u possibly hit ur macros with junk? No way.
