I never suggested that, bulking is best done when you are leaner. If I were you I'd cut down a bit before trying to bulk, but hey do what works for you bud, good luck.

i started 16/8 IF 4 weeks ago this week....and am loving it....however, based on how I feel in comparison to other cuts ive done in the past, to anybody experimenting with this Id say there are two things to look at ...
1) how is this plan working into your lifestyle and given abilities to remain disciplined? (which takes more than a couple days to possibly determine)....for me, IF'ng fits my lifestyle PERFECTLY, and I have been able to adapt it to my day to day seemlessly. If a protocol is too difficult to stick to, it won't work
2) How do you FEEL? This is funny, because i logged on to start a thread about that very question and what i have learned about it....(ill be posting shortly).....As ALL the nutrition veterans here will tell you, not every plan is meant for every man (or woman ) you have to give it TIME to see how your body reacts.
As far as to whether or not you should be clean bulking first or cutting first.....only you know what you really want, and for some people even that is a tough spot as they can't make up their mind. Think about what your LONG term goals are. Only you know what your previous body composition has been like in your lifetime. For me, years of competition in grappling sports taught me about my own body in the sense of being able to determine how much lean mass i had at any given time (roughly). If you have never been truly lean, perhaps you want to lose the fat you're carrying now so you can see who you really are under that.....but you probably will lose some of the muscle you already have now in that process of experimentation. If that concept bothers you, then a clean bulk followed by a cut would be your alternative. Personally though, if you are inexperienced (which is many of us on here hence why we visit), then you must be honest with reality that your clean bulk may add even more fat than you want, leaving you with an even bigger cut in the future if it really is the 6 pack your chasing....
blah blah blah....i know.......think long and honestly about what your TRUE goals are.....put together ALL the details of what you are currently doing...present it to the endlessly generous veterans here, and go from there....
good luck
