Everything here seems to be geared for already fit & health guys to get fine tuned. I am a fat guy and wanna dump 80+# fat. Is this kind of post appropriate for this section?

You have come to the right place NOS there are lots of knowledgeable members here that can help.
AS long as you have some humbleness and a willing to learn with respect and patience you will find those who are knowledgeable and willing to help you...., because face it everyone thinks their an expert.
Lots of good info here. If you put your mind to it you will lose the weight. When cut out the junk food and start eating clean you will be surprized how much food that is each day. I have trouble getting it all in sometimes and I'm still losing weight (belt two notches tighter). Mirror says I'm getting more toned too!
Age = 50
Height = 70 inches
Weight = 265
Body fat = I dunno maybe 30-40%?
Training history = rowing for cardio recently. Irregularly due to health issues.
I am two weeks into TRT program. Feeling better, but not great. At least the morning woods are more like Oak than Balsa. lol
Arthritic knees need me to lose weight. I need me to lose weight.
Todays diet =
1 egg, 3 egg whites scrambled with salsa
2 scoops whey protein in water, with fiber added for colon happiness
lunch hamburger no bun
2 scoops whey in water with fiber
dinner, nothing yet
desert 2 scoops whey protein in no sugar added live yogurt with fruit, mixed into a nice little bowl of creamy desert
I gave up alcohol mostly. The mostly allows me a few beers or Bourbons once or twice a month. Not enough to be hammered but enough to relax with friends.
Don't worry ironbeck. My ego ain't in this. This is for my health and my knees. Plus, imagine all the trim I can score at 190! lol
edited to add: I lost 80# fat in 2004. 10# a month solid. I am doing the same thing but now I am fifty, low T and arthritic, thusly, I am not losing 2-3# a week like when I was 41.

Typically it will take 6 months to a year to get your trt dialed in. Glad you feel better! Did they check your thyroid too? I'm 51 and 70 inches tall myself. When I weighed 220 I was at 32% bodyfat and I have lifted off an on my whole life so I'm guessing I have a little bit more lean mass than you so my guess is you're somewhere closer to 40% than 30%. There is a ton of info on dieting here so take the time to get your diet in order. Find your resting metabolic rate and TDEE and work from there.
My knees are fine but I hate running so I bought a bike. Much easier on the joints. And I get to go much farther and see different scenery.
Hi Brazen;
Yes, thyroid tested by endo who denied me TRT. All was good, twice 60 days apart. Yes, I know TRT takes time to dial in. I am in it for the long haul. Hoping to be at least 50# lighter by New Years. Not for the holiday but baseball season starts soon after that!
I had a sixpack in high school at 180. That was zero weight training and all skateboarding.
There is so much info about diet here I cannot separate the wheat from the chaff. It's all new territory for me. I think I have to wait for a guru to take my case! Macros?
