HDL Cholestorol Low! Need advice to correct.

I just got bloodwork back. The only problem was my good Cholestorol was low at 25mg/dl

What can I do to get it to healthy levels? What causes this? Any advice would be great!

    Steroids will lower it.
Monounsaturated fat will increase it (olive oil).

Thanks, Yeah my test levels were 1492. I am sure that has something to do with it?

Androgens can lower hdl, the stronger the androgen the more potential it has at lowering it.

When my hdl is low due to being on cycle I haven't found anything diet or nutrition related that's effective at raising it.

EFA's, whole grains, cardio, etc. will help bring it back up after cycle though.

Huh! Have you ever had any bad effects from it being low?

I have never had any bad affects my HDL has been low for as long as I can remember at least 7 years I am 12.5 Bf eat ultra clean supplement with 3600mg of fish oil a day as well as vitamin E and it never goes up. On or off cycle it is always low and I have never seen or felt 1 negative side from it. It is a hereditary issue for me I think as most of my family has low HDL as well but anyways no negative effect at all.

Yeah, I feel great. I have tons of energy, my immune system is strong. Blood pressure is normal and heart rate is good.

I guess I will just keep a eye on it and up my fish oils. Thanks

Nope, sure haven't. All my other lipids are great so I am starting to think it's hereditary.

Runs in my family as well. Look into an advanced particle test (NMR Lipo Profile) for your lipids next time. This way you can make a determination exactly what type of LDL particles you have and assess your risk factors better. Labcorp offers it. Small-dense LDL particles = bad. Fluffy = good. Mine came back labeled as abnormal, WTF!

I'll have to talk with my Dr about the blood test. I did buy some Niacin (not the slo as I read it can be bad for the liver, but niacide I think it was called (mentioned in LEF article). Only took once since the flushing was horrible (entire body from waist up was blood shot with hot and cold flashes).
