Ive reached the bulk weight of where I want to be, 115kgs, the question I have is im now starting to cut, bcoz ill be at a calorie defecit im not expecting to gain any extra muscle just maintain my muscle and lose the fat. Is it then ok to not go as hard at the gym or maybe do half as many sets as what I normally do seem as though I wont be gaining any muscle only maintaining and ill be using morning cardio to burn fat?

Hey bro, i would just go lighter on the weights with more reps.. lets say whem your are bulking you go heavy with 4 sets of 8/6 now that you are gonna cut go 4 sets of 12/10 you know.. get better definition on your muscles from your bulk stage.. i think you should still go hard at the gym but with less weight and more reps.

I've never agreed with going lighter while dieting on everything.
Keep the compound excercises 7-9 (heavy)
Isolation excercises 15-20 (lighter but still taxing)
You have 2 kinds of muscle fibers you need to stimulate do it.

I always thought that heavier compound movements allowed for better muscle retention whilst cutting. In the region of 3-5 reps per set? Also isn't light reps for toning just a myth?

I second this as well, don't necessarily go lighter and less reps, keep your weights up, use isolation techniques, TUT (time under tension) is another aspect that will drive more blood flow to your muscles, creating more of a pump and more results. Keep your rest periods shorter, utilize super sets/dropsets, keep the muscles guessing and stimulated all throughout your workout!
Definitely use cardio! LISS (low intensity steady state)
