Here's a question. Carbs and fats together?

    Hi guys,

I've been doing a bit of reading and a lot of people are saying you shouldn't have carbs and fats at the same time as once you spike your insulin with the carbs the fat is then stored as fat and not used as energy as obviously the easier choice for the body is to use the carbs rather than the fat for energy.

    What do you think?

Here's my personal opinion (which many will disagree with):

It's goal-dependent. When I'm in a mass-adding phase, I worry a lot less about this, mainly because I'm eating more calories. I do cut off carbs at a certain point later in the day however, and localize the bulk of them around my workout window. Personal preference, and completely logical. I know I feel and look better when I do this.

Within the realm of 'typical' bodybuilding type diets (i.e. several small meals throughout the day), I tend to keep one macro dominant over the other. I don't separate them per se, but I won't typically have a meal with 50g carbs and 30g fat for instance. There are people who will argue that it 'all comes out in the wash', therefore it doesn't matter when you eat as long as it fits within your macro nutrient goals. Again, depending on your goal, I don't feel it's always that simple (but it doesn't have to be complicated either).

The main issue I see with this is guys who are 20% bodyfat or more, have no idea how to diet, don't have their macros and/or calories worked out, but are worrying about lower-impacting tweaks like separating carbs and fats.

When we get down into single digit bodyfat levels, the game changes. It becomes much more difficult to burn fat (because there's so little left to burn) and tweaks like this are necessary. If they weren't, you wouldn't see the large majority of top level bodybuilders following the protocol.

    Thanks for info Gbrice!

Didn't know if it was another load of bullshit from a magazine, but it does make sense for sure. Cheers dude

Actually whilst I'm here what's your take on the whole "your body can absorb only 20g of protein out of 50g" surely your body will absorb what it needs to repair no? Especially post workout.. Personally I think it's bill crap. Any ideas?

there are some people on here who fast for a whole day and then engulf 1200 cals or more. did it myself!

what works for one, may not work for another. you have to find out what works for you with trial and error

It's more of a misconception than bullshit... it's true that our bodies can only absorb X amount of protein per hour (X slightly varying from person to person). The misconception is that what doesn't get absorbed upon ingestion is wasted. The fact is larger meals will simply take longer to digest. Your body will use what it needs.

    I hope this clarifies things.

Agree with what was already said above.and I am following a four meal a day at 50 grams of protein each meal and I'm cutting. And I'm either the same size or bigger cause I look bigger in mirror.
Also does cardio but we're taking diet right now. I feel for me 50 pro is better then more 30 pro meals per day.just giving another example about finding what works for your body type.but what will never change on any of us is getting your macro split and following it or you will not achieve the results you want
