It all depends on how serious you want to be and how much you're willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals. The small percentage of guys who really live the lifestyle rarely drink if at all, in my experience.

That said - your best bet would be either shots or mixed drinks w/ sugar free mixers (diet soda, seltzer, etc.). Bear in mind that most hard liquor contains roughly 100 cals/shot - so it's not a 'freebie'.

an issue that was near and dear to my heart as a life-long heavy beer drinker (until recently).

as said above, the really hardcore guys rarely ever drink at all.

all alcohol has calories and is dehydrating. In quantity, it can also slow the metabolism and even suppress testosterone and / or raise estrogen levels. I understand from reading that beer is especially bad about this because of the grains used and the brewing process.

In all, it seems like vodka, gin, or other clear spirits mixed with water, tonic or soda are the best choice if you are gonna choose to drink. So the best choice is probably none, but if you have to, think "light, clear, and in moderation". Cheers.

I have used this site to find the best alcohol to fit my needs if Im going to drink.

Get Drunk Not Fat | Beer Calories, Wine and Alcohol Calorie and Carb Database

None of its good & its all empty cals so get the best bang for your buck . I figure though if Im going to drink I'm also going to enjoy what I am drinking so a good scotch will trade off for 30 more calories in my book any day.

Comparing the metabolism of fructose with the metabolism of ethanol show that they are very similar. In fact, when you compare the metabolism of 150 calories of soda with 150 calories of beer (a 12-ounce can of each), about 90 calories reach the liver in either case. Fructose causes most of the same toxic effects as ethanol because both come from sugar fermentation. Both ethanol metabolism and fructose metabolism lead to visceral adiposity (belly fat), insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.

    Thanks

I try not to drink but when I do I have a few whiskey and diet cokes. I honestly think the dehydration that alcohol induces hurts you more than the empty cals.
