Amount of protein for cutting

I am sure this has been discussed millions of times but if I am 290 pounds at 21 percent body fat, to be able to cut weight down and maintain my muscle, is it 1 g of protein per pound of lean muscle mass or 1 g of protein per the 290 pounds? I know there isn't a right answer but looking for a range to go by.

1 g per pound of muscle, not the whole body weight.

So anywhere between 220-240 g of protein I should be consuming daily for leaning out purposes.

My protein stays pretty damn consistant all the time. I cut with my carbs and fat mostly. Actually, it is almost all carbs I cut. You are 220-240 of lbm? That must look huge. I guess I am around 175 but have never done a bod pod. I eat 200-220 grams of protein for that. Some think numbers have to be exact for protein but I really don't unless you are trying to get from 10% to 6%.

1-1.5 grams protein should be a good ballpark. I am no nutritionist though.
