How much water do guys consume ?

I have been hearing conflicting opinions with this topic and wanted to hear how much the average bodybuilder AND regular weight lifter on and off cycle intakes . How much is too much and not enough ?

^^^This. Proper hydration is indicated by urine that is nearly clear and odorless with a voiding frequency of approximately every 3 hours. That often means 1-2 gallons per day but will vary with body size.

1-1.5 gallons aday. I use to have a EXTREMELY physical job where i worked inches from 1700 degree molten aluminum. An when i first started i drank 3.5 gallons(29lbs) of water 12 hours. So in regards to too much. I think that would be pretty hard to do.

Yup and also how much water your food contains. I eat so much cucumber that I think I need to drink less than average lol

Well op, you technically asked how much we drink but I am going to assume you are asking in order to decide for yourself how much you should be drinking. If not then I am sorry for jumping to conclusions.

This guy is giving the best advice for you. By that I mean that you should not drink water, or liquids, basedentirely off of a general guideline. Any specific amount of liquid stated by any experienced athlete is something he has determined to be the best fit for himself.

My point here is that what everyone else drinks does not matter that much, you should worry about what you need specifically and that varies drastically from person to person. It all depends on your metabolism, diet, substances you might be on, body size, and physical activity with a few other variables in there too.

So here are some simple things to look for when trying to figure out how much you should be drinking:

-use a urine scale found on a reliable website to compare the color of your urine to, they are all over the internet
-pinch your skin to check for turgor, depending on your age you might have to factor in a little bit for old age
-check for signs of dehydration such as dry mouth, feeling lethargic, not sweating when you should be, dizziness or lightheadedness, lethargy, and so on

Most doctors recommend the usual 2-3 liters a day but like I said those are generalized. You just have to learn your body. I do not like forced hydration or generalized hydration because I have seen overhydration happen to a few people in the military.

Correct again! My 1G a day doesn't factor water from 1-2 protein shakes and water enriched foods (watermelon, cucumber, Asian pears, etc). That is why I use the clarity, color, odor rule as a guide. When I run compounds such as tren, my water intake HAS to be higher otherwise my urine is dark an that is a bad sign.

Thank you everyone for the informative responses !! I like to see a good thread communication ..

RangersDanger , that is simply not the case at all . I work for a company that is in a warehouse that manufactures Search and Rescue and military interiors . I deal with half A/C and half outside air and I was curious to see based on my job and fitness about 5 days a week I'm drinking enough . The whole reason I ask this question is because my co-workers have been hounding me about how much water I consume saying I'm drinking too much water and that it's not as good as they say it is to drink on daily bases .

Therefore on a average day I take in 1.5 gallon a day followed by milk and orange juice in the evening . Of course tv and doctors are going to voice their opinions , but now a days everything seems to be bad for you . Haha Thanks again

Well..... to be fair and balanced to the discussion, hyponatremia can occur but the incidence is far less common than dehydration and involves an imbalance of electrolytes. I don't recall the exact LD50 for water. It's extremely high though so it is exceptionally rare for water intoxication to occur. Yes it can happen, but being dehydrated is far more likely.

A good way to determine your water intake requirements start with 1oz. of water for every 2lbs of body weight. 200 lb dude about 100ozs of water. Not Gatorade not kool aid just straight plain water. Then check the color of urine. Odor is not always an accurate way of detecting due to some foods (dark greens ). Then any Gatorade or milk or whatever is just extra fluids. But water is the only true median for proper kidney and hydration functions.

I was just getting back on here to add that but you guys beat me to it. I have probably seen 100 cases of dehydration for every case of overhydration in the most strenuous parts of my last job. I wouldn't worry about your coworkers hounding you for drinking too much because you would know it if you were. I was just saying it is a possibility because, no offense, I have met some people dumb enough to take my advice and run with it to the point of dehydration so I just wanted to cover my bases.

*******. I apologize for creating this thread in the wrong section , i value all of you opinions with this topic . ********

Muscle , none taking man I know there is a lot of younger crowd that will take info and run with it too fast . I have been on this forum for a couple months now and can't believe my eyes seeing how many kids I mean kids at 18 think taking AAS is the hottest thing at their age . I'm 31 , and when I started working out at 18-19 I was a chicken s**t to even think of taking it . My first cycle was last year and couldn't be happier about waiting that long .
Long story short thank you for everyone's feedback , I respect all of you and hope you chime in on m next question in the future !!

Easily over a gallon a day. I don't push myself to drink it. Probably 2.5 gallons of liquids a day including water, milk, juice, coffee. I usually drink about a 1/2 gallon at the gym alone.
