    My issue with drinking water

Ok so, just recently I realized the importance of getting my water in. I know, I know...

I slowly am trying to get to a gallon a day. I've been drinking between 70 - 80 FL ounces per day, there is 124 FL OZ in a gallon.

Why is it that I am always thirsty? The more water I drink seems to make it worse. Not sure where to go from here.

    Thank you in advance.

Body could be super compensating for previous water dehydration maybe?

There have been times when I was so thirsty I could literally drink 1/2 gl at once and I still wanted more.

Rule of thumb is 1/2 your body weight in ounces is sufficient. Example: I weigh 205lbs, so I need roughly 100 oz. of water daily. This is what I would call normally active persons maintenance. Adjust accordingly to your activity level. Why are you always thirsty, what does your sodium intake look like on a daily basis?

The more water you drink the less you retain.

The thing is is that the water doesn't seem to quench my thirst. My mouth continues to get super dry. I'm pretty sure I am not diabetic but i am anemic, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

As for the sodium, more sodium or less? I usually don't have a lot of sodium in my diet.

Your body requires a certain amount of water per day. I don't remember the exact amount given as an example. Let's just say it's a gallon a day. The source of this water can be from anything, including the foods we eat. So if you are drinking a gallon a day, the reality is your total water intake is probably pushing a gallon and a half.

read up on rehydration fluids. this will quench your thirst. Primarily potassium and some sodium and a small amount of glucose. I've been severely dehydrated several times and this is a very effective way to cure thirst and rehydrate.

So I've probably been drinking too much water to begin with? Besides water I consume sports drinks i.e. Powerade & Gatorade but this is usually around workout time & postworkout when I take my BCAAs.

As for the rehydration fluids, I guess you're talking about electrolytes & such. Can you recommend any foods to eat?

Powerade & Gatorade will make you more thirsty because of the sugar. You should water that shit down. If I ever drink gatorade I cut it with water to make 4x the product.

many years ago, us old timers when we were running distance, we would take whole orange juice and cut it 100% with water. This replaces electrolytes and quenches thirst as well.......

Where did I say that? I clearly said I've been trying to get my numbers to a gallon a day but currently consume between 70 - 80 Fluid oz daily. I also clearly said the more water I drink the thirstier I get. Obviously I'm having some kind of problem in my diet where I am always dehydrated & came here for input. Thank you.

With all due respect, this board has a bad reputation of scaring new members away. You don't show anything otherwise in your helpful post in a thread I started but to each their own, carry on. If I wanted to get some kind of sarcastic post to my question I would be on the bodyspace forum.

This sounds like a very good idea, tr. I never thought of that, I've prob spent, well I have no idea really, way too much money on Gatorade. You old ****ers really do have a lot of wisdom.

There is always some asshole that's wants to shake up the thread man, don't let them scare you off. I've prob been that asshole before. Just take what you can use and leave the rest. You will find out pretty quick who is real and who is trying to up their ego. **** em, keep on trying to learn and better yourself, that's what all of us are tryin to do. Look at my first post, it really is that simple. Follow that protocol for a week or so and re evaluate.

Seriously? You said it right here. You aren't drinking enough water, yet you're thirsty. So logic would dictate that you should try drinking more water before worrying about some medical condition causing dehydration or electrolyte imbalances.

If you drink over a gallon of water daily for a week and still only grow thirstier, I'll be happy to assist you in determining the root cause (be it diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, electrolyte deficiency (either dietary or from fluid loss), or anything else).

What annoyed me about your post was that you're complaining that you're always thirsty, yet you don't drink nearly as much water as most of us. So it sounds like you answered your own question.

PS: Greenwell, don't ever call me an asshole.

First off, let me clear something up for you. No one tells me what I can and can't do bro. Secondly, your comment gave no help whatsoever for the op, that's why I called you out. I've seen you try to be cool in other newbie's threads, honestly it makes me think your an ASSHOLE.

You're obviously unfamiliar with the Socratic method (with a bit of sarcasm thrown because I don't get paid for this shit and get tired of helping ingrates every day of the year). I actually illuminated the OP's issue in my first post, but you two were too busy being a white knight to read between the lines.

You figured me out: I don't contribute anything around here, but they keep me around on staff just because I'm good at chasing off the thin-skinned newbies.

I didnt know this. Thanks. I thought that you lost weight from drinking water due to the fact that your always running to the bathroom to pee so sweating hoping you will make it to the bathroom.

    This.

One time I went cycling, obese and totally unprepared. After a few hours, no matter how much water I would drink, I'd still be thirsty.
I drank about three gallons, but was still thirsty. It's probably electrolytes.

There are other ways of going about it. Not everyone appreciates sarcasm, & this is what people mean when they say it's easy to be scared off this board. Good to see your mod, really refreshing ; ]

At this point I suspect it to be an electrolyte imbalance...

If i'm drinking close to 80 FL Oz of water daily & I am still experience extreme thirst obviously something outside water intake is dehydrating me. Obviously if my issue were to solved by drinking more water i wouldn't have started a thread talking about drinking more water. Anything else?

I've been in the OP's position, overhydrating, yet still thirsty. Want a cure?

Look at my above post on rehydration fluids.

Your body is craving more than just water. It is craving electrolytes. Most water will not supply the body these electrolytes. You can drink all the water you want, yet still be thirsty a few minutes later.

And the rest of you that are throwing down all the BS.....
    .........Really?
