    Crystal light

So I know crystal light is almost calorie free. Is there anything bad for you in it? I used to put 5-6 scoops of xtend in each gallon but thatss starting to get expensive and I'm at 2 gallons per day and water is starting to taste like SHIT. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

I'm personally not a fan of the ones that have aspartame in them.
I believe some of them don't have that though.

Xtend - 5-6 scoops per gallon?!?!
    Isn't that too strong tasting?
I love my Xtend, but I can barely tolerate 3.5-4 scoops in a gallon.

Yep, same stuff that's in Xtend.
Acesulfame potassium which contains methylene chloride, which is a known carcinogen. long-term use of this carcinogen may cause cancer.

In 2006 the FDA reported the benzene content of crystal light was way too high. Benzene is a carcinogen so the formula was changed and the benzene content reduced to acceptable levels.

Now the issue is with acesulfame-K which has been approved for use by the FDA since 1998. It has NOT been shown to cause cancer but the CSPI has petitioned the FDA to temporarily stop approval of it until better studies can be conducted. Apparently they have issues with some of the studies used backing it's safety. Methylene chloride is a substance used during the manufacturing process of acesulfame-K and a known carcinogen but for acesulfame-K to have passed FDA approval in the first place the methylene chloride content would have had to have been within acceptable levels.

I do t think there's anything wrong in using crystal light but personally I just love drinking plain water. I'll occasionally drink something else but during the summer months I get at least 2gal water in and sometimes up to 2.5gal

Look for drink flavoring that has stevia as a sweetener....or just add stevia to your water. I know a few guys that add chopped fruit (lemon, apples, berries, etc) to their fruit for natural flavoring and less artificial sugar.

There are new bottles that have caps where you can put fresh fruit in and then another separate cap to put water in and the water goes through a filtering system in the bottle and gets some flavor to it And you won't have to worry about getting cancer by drinking mio or crystal light

Watermelon? 91% of it is water.

    Cucumber? 96% water.

For me it is also water only. Hard to drink anything else when it never goes under 90 degrees.

Thank you all. I forgot I posted this. I have a vitamix, so I think I'm going to try some fruit blends then mix into my gallons. That should be good.

And no 5-6 scoops of xtend tasted like blue raspberry kool aid

I had no idea Acesulfame K contained methylene chloride. I've seen methylene chloride used in vapor degreasing processes over the years. It's fairly nasty stuff.

not a big fan of ANY artificial sweeteners. Everyone, as far as I know, has had bad press. No need for sweet.

Here's what I do when I get "bored" of just water.

A pinch of cinnamon in the shaker cup. Shake the shit out of it. Now you have cinnamon flavored water. Sips well, goes down easy, more interesting than just plain water.

    You can thank me later

^But then you can't give the Crystal Light company all your hard earned cash for something that has questionable health issues. So don't tell anyone. Wouldn't want to hurt the corporations "bottom line"!!!

Remember, whole foods, not processed foods. And never something you cannot pronounce or do not understand what the chemical is you are consuming

Just bc you can't pronounce an ingredient doesn't mean it should be avoided or eliminated.

Agreed. I could only drink water otherwise.

Aspartame is pretty bad for your health when consumed regularly.

Look mate. If you can't pronounce it, it aint natural, nor do you understand what it is, unless you a chemist.

    You a chemist?

    TR,

I do not agree with this. Let me illustrate an example. Would you eat the following (I am not trying to trick you, I got the answer below).

INGREDIENTS: AQUA (75.8%), AMINO ACIDS (12.6%) (GLUTAMIC ACID (14%), ASPARTIC ACID (11%), VALINE (9%), ARGININE (8%), LEUCINE (8%), LYSINE (7%), SERINE (7%), PHENYLALANINE (6%), ALANINE (5%), ISOLEUCINE (5%), PROLINE (4%), TYROSINE (3%), THREONINE (3%), GLYCINE (3%), HISTIDINE (2%), METHIONINE (3%), CYSTINE (2%), TRYPTOPHAN (1%)); FATTY ACIDS (9.9%) (OCTADECENOIC ACID (45%), HEXADECANOIC ACID (32%), OCTADECANOIC ACID (12%), EICOSATETRAENOIC ACID (3%), EICOSANOIC ACID (2%), DOCOSANOIC ACID (1%), TETRACOSANOIC ACID (1%), OCTANOIC ACID (<1%), DECANOIC ACID (<1%), DODECANOIC ACID (<1%), TETRADECANOIC
ACID (<1%), PENTADECANOIC ACID (<1%), HEPTADECANOIC ACID (<1%), TETRADECENOIC ACID (<1%), HEXADECENOIC ACID (<1%), EICOSENOIC ACID (<1%), DOCOSENOIC ACID (<1%), OMEGA-6 FATTY
    ACID: OCTADECADIENOIC ACID (12%), OMEGA-3 FATTY ACID: OCTADECATRIENOIC ACID (<1%), EICOSAPENTAENOIC ACID (EPA) (<1%), OMEGA-3 FATTY ACID: DOCOSAHEXAENOIC ACID (DHA) (<1%));
    SUGARS (0.8%) (GLUCOSE (30%), SUCROSE (15%), FRUCTOSE (15%), LACTOSE (15%), MALTOSE (15%), GALACTOSE (15%)); COLOUR (E160c, E160a), E306, E101; FLAVOURS (PHENYLACETALDEHYDE, DODECA-2-
ENAL, HEPTA-2-ENAL, HEXADECANAL, OCTADECANAL, PENTAN-2-ONE, BUTAN-2-ONE, ACETALDEHYDE, FORMALDEHYDE, ACETONE); SHELL (E170), ALSO CONTAINS BENZENE & BENZENE DERIVATIVES, ESTERS,
    FURANS, SULFUR-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS AND TERPENES.
These are the chemical compounds of an egg. Now, if you listed that on stuff and the only criteria was to not eat what you do not know this would be out the door, at least for me.

sorry. all the ingredients list I look at would just say "egg". What food do you eat that has all that BS on the ingredients label instead of just saying "egg"?

and btw, egg has a lot going on for it with multiple protein types and a variety of amino acid profiles.
