    Diet Break

I am posting this on behalf of a close friend of mine who seems to be very confused.

    His stats:

    Age:23
    Height:5'8
    Weight:157lbs
Body Fat: 13-14% with the goal being 10%-11%
Trains 4x a week with 1 year of experience.
    Supplements currently taking: Multi-vitamins

He has been dieting for the past 2 months at 1,880 calories per day with a 30/45/25 split. Micronutrients-wise the diet is filled with fiber and little to no sugar (dietary). All macronutrients received from food sources, no synthetic sources. His dilemma is that he is having a very difficult time managing his diet as he is constantly fighting cravings and is wondering if a 1 week break from his diet is what he needs in which he will eat at 2,350 calories to maintain or a slight surplus of 100-300 calories.

There is no set date on when he needs to reach his goal, however by May-ish is a good set point.

I myself have recommended him to up his calories so his deficit is no more than 100 calories and to stick to that until new years as it will reduce mental stress from eating such little food and it will also allow him to low fat, albeit at a very very slow rate (at least he won't gain any).

    Advice appreciated. Many thanks.

Surely a break from the reduced cals for a week is not going to damage anything, especially at maintanace cals.

He should post his diet to see why he is getting cravings all the time.

Going from eating junk to having no sugar from the past 2 months or so must do some serious damage to the brain. I've been doing reading on the subject at hand and sugar is arguably as addictive as class a/b drugs to an extent in some individuals.
I'll have him send me his diet and i'll post it up asap

The more you diet down the harder the body fights getting leaner. The more extreme the deficit the harder the body fights against losing weight as well. A couple good refeed days should help up-regulate metabolic hormones, replenish lost glycogen, get rid of some possible bloating, and give a much needed mental break from dieting. There's no reason he can't have the foods he's craving within moderation so long as he can fit them into the context of his diet.

His deficit is probably too big for him to manage, take it slower and take refeed days (higher carbs) when needed. I just had one myself, and decided to eat a tub of ice cream

    All great advice above.

sorry, no desire to join the beautiful people club. mostly snobs. rather surround my self with normal looking people that are dedicated and work their ass off.

to a high extent, how you look is a gift. Beautiful people seem to want to be treated just a bit different. I'm sorry, I don't believe in the caste system.....

I'm butt ugly. I just try to compensate for it through bodybuilding. This way it detracts from my elephant man type appearance.
