    Lets talk about clean eating...

So I see a lot of people talking about a clean diet/ clean life style. what exactly are we talking about? I think I maintain a fairly clean eating regimen. I eat organic veggies/fruits. buy organic meats and I get my eggs from the old man down the road that raises chickens. I also recently switched to a whole foods vitamin. Beyond that, what can a person do to stay "clean"?

'Clean' eating is subjective. It depends on who you ask. Also, whether it matters or not, with regard to bodybuilding, is also a topic of debate.

For some people, clean eating simply means eating foods that are minimally processed. Others, like you, take it a step further and opt for organic, raw, etc.

In strict health terms, it's a no-brainer to me. Eat as close to natural as possible. Grass fed beef, free range chicken, wild caught fish, organic fruits/veggies, etc. Again, whether or not any of this has an impact on making gains and/or fat loss is a matter of debate.

Also, just to throw a little extra on the pile. I work next to a guy who is fully gluten free as well as organic. Has anyone else found benefit to making the gluten free switch?

Gluten is another one ... there's always some evil demon within the fitness/health sphere. It was fat, it was carbs, HFCS, Trans Fats, Gluten ... I wonder what'll be next?

There are some people who are legitimately-gluten intolerant. There are many more who aren't, but self-diagnose themselves as such.

I guess his wife is some sort of "wellness doctor"... and her argument for pro-organic, gluten free, no GMO is stomach and digestive health/ longevity. which I guess I could understand. I mean we are all here in search of the best versions of ourselves. why not protect the investment. just seems like a bit much to me to constantly stress about what might be on the skin of the apple im eating...or if the gluten in my bread is going to help me live longer.

I hear you. I don't necessarily disagree with the whole 'clean eating' movement. I like the idea, I mean ... how can it hurt? Aside from making us go broke.

GMO's is another one, thanks, lol.

since I started "clean" eating my grocery bill has gone up at least $50 a week. which absolutely blows my mind, and for all my money I get no piece of mind. I work in transportation. specifically refrigerated cargo such as produce and meats. I know for a fact that my truckload of Organic sweet potatoes was moved along side 4 bins of non-organic bell peppers. so my food is being exposed to the same crap im trying to avoid anyway. not that its going to shy me away from keeping up on the clean eating just a little "food" for thought.

I definitely believe in eating clean... i think eating meat/protein sources that are clean is very important. i am serious about grass-fed beef, organic free-range chicken, etc... i think it's important that your meat ate a natural healthy diet.

I never understand why people do this kind of stuff? If your not allergic to something then there is generally no reason to avoid it. So funny. People have survived all these years eating gluten. Then a study comes out and now it's the devil.
