Is smoking cigarettes going to minimise gains?

    Hi all,

Yes I know the dangers of smoking, but I was just wondering if I should not smoke straight after a workout? Or straight before a workout? I'll give up in time but at the moment I'm just not ready. I'm on a test e, Dianabol cycle atm, in my third week. Seeing gains but not sure how much my smoking is impacting on 'what results I could have' any help would be great..

I don't think so, it'll just kill you, not to worry.

I actually quit because a bro told me that smoking post-workout kills gains because that's when your muscles want oxygen the most and you're depriving them of it. Got some patches and quit a couple days after.

Doubt there's any truth to it but tbh i have no idea.

It will only kill you. Killed my mother at 42 and my dad now has C.O.P.D. from smoking and is on oxygen 24/7 and can hardly even get up to go to the bathroom. Smoking is just so worth it.

Directly and indirectly. You better believe it. Aside from the minimized performance at the gym (No matter how hard you 'think' you're training, you could do MUCH better if you didn't smoke)...

Now, smoking causes less oxygen intake and therefore, increased RBC levels. Testosterone and Dianabol will also cause RBC levels to rise. That's a double whammy. Let's hope you do not have sleep apnea or live in an elevated area...... triple whammy.

Trust me, your 'gains' are hindered.

    Whats life without pleasure?

Alot of "gym goers" smoke. How much it hinders your gains, i dont know. But what i do know is that you can still gain muscle while smoking. Judge by OP´s pic, it looks like it hasnt stopped him.

I was merely providing information for the OP. Not really looking to argue. I know plenty about smoking.

    Thanks.

LOL you put smoking in that category? Smoking is only pleasurable once it's a full time habit, the normal person who doesn't smoke may say that about bad foods or fast cars, but not a literal stick of inhalable poison

Everything in moderation. How much people value life is completely up to them. People drink alcohol, people eat junkfood/cheat meals, people do coke, use artificial ingredienses, jaywalk, skydive, drive fast bla bla bla. All this can be damaging to you, but why live if you cant enjoy life? Better to life a short enjoyable life, than to grow old and misserable.

    Rules -

Steroids are borderline rec - it's a fact(to us at least) 99.999999999999% of us don't have muscle waisting

And juice because we are self indulgent wieners

Different than getting ****ed up - but, not at the same time

But, I'll save my health from smoking to destroy elsewhere.

I don't see that much fun in cigs any more at all & stink like shit.

I'm pretty sure a large population of smokers lives would be happier if they didn't smoke. So in turn, they'd grow older, and have a better life if they stopped...

    Smoking decreases lung capacity.

How could it not impact your performance in the gym?

He was asking if it minimises gains, not preformance. Of course its not optimal, however you can still combine smoking and lifting.

Smoking does not affect gains, to think it would is about as stupid as thinking adding creatine to the tank of a race car would hinder performance......

It always killed me that growing up racing cars all these idiots would joke about those who worried about eating junk or inhaling chemicals as if it were harmless. Yet these same guys would get pissed if you spit in the gas tank of their 5 year old lawnmower.

It doesn't say it's impossible, it actually clearly states it's still possible. You're deluded if you think smoking doesn't have an indirect or direct effect on building muscle.

If you open your eyes and read what i wrote earlier, i clairy said:

"Of course its not optimal, however you can still combine smoking and lifting."

The question from OP was if it MINIMISES GAINS, which it does not. If it MINIMISES GAINS, every smoker would look like a shriveled up raisin. Again, its not optimal, its not healty, it will have an effect on your preformance, you will have an increased change of health problems, HOWEVER you can still gain muscle! And thats what the queation was about.

I see it like this, speaking as an ex smoker, your lung capacity is just not as good versus a non smoking counterpart, you can not carry as much oxygen to the muscles when required, you dont have as much endurance or strength, so over time YES you will be minimising gains

Do you know, off hand; if it's the nicotine or the other chemicals in a cigarette causing an increase in RBC levels. I use E-smoke so this interests me.

    It's oxygen deprivation from smoking.
