    Supplementing Vitamin D3

    anyone supplementing D3? Kel?

i am not sure if i am actually deficient in vitamin D (have not been tested), but i have been reading a lot about vitamin D and muscle tightness/knots. here is a little background on me. when i was 11 and 13, i broke my right humerous bone while playing baseball due to a bone cyst (made my bone pretty much hollow). my joints crack and creek all the time and my tendons/muscles stay tight as hell. feels like most are like a taut, like a rubber band about to pop! my legs are full of muscle knots, feels like my quad and my vastus lateralis are stuck together. keep looking, searching for answers, and wondering if that is what i have going on. want to see if supplementing vitamin D3 for a few months will help. from everything that i have been reading (examine.com), seems the range limit to daily intake is around 5,000IU- 10,000IU.

my questions, how much should i start taking to start out with? i have some vitamin D3 (1,000IU) with Calcium pills, and started taking 2, twice a day, today. that will equate to about 4,000IUs a day. how long does it take the body to build up vitamin D in your body to affect where one can actually feel the difference? should i do a loading phase?

any feedback is much appreciated, thanks!

Hey RC, there is so much good from supplementing D3 that this is something I just found... I woulda explained it but there's so much it does... And there's sections for what you want to look for... Sorry I can't get the link to show... That's weird.... I'll keep tryin! This is what it's effective in and it seems like

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...tural/929.html

    DOSE IS DEPENDENT ON SITUATION:

Osteoporosis 800-2000iu daily and can be w/calcium like you did...

But I do say 5000iu daily and heard of 10000iu being taken(not sure if Dr prescribed but I've seen those capsules at G N C b4...

Nothing I need to tell you Ragin. Nach linked a great article there and you're already clued in to Examine.com which is the best supplement site out there. Vit D is without question one of the most important supplements to take, imho. Not a supplement but actually a hormone. Any cheap version of D3 is fine. Most in North America are low. That said, get your level tested as soon as you can so you have a clue where you're at. Remember, it's fat soluble, not water soluble and can be toxic if you elevated your level ridiculously high for to long a time period.

Re your question about how fast it elevates in your blood, take a look at table 1 in the first link below.

I am surprised you haven't had your hormone BW taken. I thought u had a year or so back. Oh well. Get that done.

In the meantime I read one of these that insufficient vit d can deter weight loss. Interesting. I also didn't know that it was a hormone. Good read fellas. Thanks for the links Nach and Kelkel.
