chef with way too many options
So i have asked a few questions with wonderful answers.. my biggest diet issue is that I am a chef.. school trained and hard noxxed as well.. I can make almost anything taste good. However I am stuck with the problem of way too many eh.. options that taste unreal, and since I am a fat ass because of so many years away from training I eat almost constantly... I know most of you wish you had this problem..
what it boils down to is when im bored i end up trying things and when I do.. if its good that part of the soul that says.. wow this is unreal gets a portion.. I need some kind of appetite control so that I can be bored and not want to eat something. I work in a college where the food line needs to be stocked all the time which means when i wander away from my kitchen I have nothing but options and even when I am not hungry I end up wanting something.. What is the best way to not feel that need to eat when you are surrounded by food ALL THE TIME? if I can get that on lock down I would be where I need to be.
I am stuck with the issue of food being freely available in copious amounts at any time during my work time.. It is almost impossible to not be enticed.. I know will power is a key factor but you can only deal with so much.. How do I control the urge to just eat randomly? Even when i eat only on schedule because of my surroundings I am always either tasting something or dieing of hunger

Try to stay at a 500-800 calorie deficit. Some people use appetite suppressant pill. A trick I use to control hunger is eating hot peppers (pickled jalapenos) they seem to upset my stomach so it helps kill my hunger.

I use to work in the industry and understand what you're going through. A simple trick I found was to chew gum all day. This doesn't help much with hunger but will stop you from tasting foods all the time. After a week or two of a steady diet your hunger between meals should subside.

Gum, diet soda, crystal light, coffee...Motivation is key though IMO if you really want to reach your goals no amount of food in front of you will stop you

I'm a chef too too...like David said motivation is key.
But I honestly have the opposite of your problem. Restaurant is too busy most of the time and I find it very hard to get in all the food I need.

I got out of the restaurants because I was tired of being murdered every night, night after night... I got lucky and got a good gig in the University out here and during the summer it is very very relaxed.. too much time to eat bull shit food
Thank you all for the posts, I was reading a thread on here that had suggested synephrine.. anyone have any experience using this and will it help control random hunger?

Hope you have found a way to help alleviate the nibbles. As a food and beverage professional I fully understand the dilemma. Like @Sfla80 said many times it's way to chaotic to even think about eating but when it's slow...all hell can cut loose hunger wise. The best thing that works for me is constant water. It fills you up plus flushes you out. I find 2 gallons a day with the normal scheduled meals doesn't leave you much desire for munching...miss one meal or be late by an hour though...and TROUBLE. Although there is access to food all day/night it really helps if I pre-make, pre-measure, pre-pack each days meals and bring them with me. It allows me to know I am only able to have what is in the cooler I brought and nothing else.
Lastly have found the longer you stick with the really healthy foods the less you want the other less than nutritious foods...not because you don't like them or they don't taste good, they simply make you feel bad.
Example....I limit myself to one reward a week (sometimes every other week)...body has become accustomed to this. Now when there is a splurge the end result is typically a lot of trips to the bathroom, a lot of swelling and if it's a sugary treat joint pain which is already present is ten fold along with night sweats and a head ache. Give yourself a solid 2-4 weeks of a serious clean out (not juicing or fasting but reg diet based on macros for your goals). Be a real stickler about it. When you do reward yourself you will probably experience some of the same aftermath....it's a great natural deterrent.
