Taking Beta blocker for anixety. Can cause weight gain???

So i've had severe anxiety for the past 9 months due to a medicine i took for depression for 2 ****ing days. my Doc just put me on Propranalol 10mg x3 daily for my anxiety. It helps, but i am extremely concerned because it can and most likely will cause weight gain around the abdominal.. I've read people gaining 10+ within a month?!?!? I'm like freaking out because i just cut 40 pounds in 9 months, (Alot lost from anxiety) I was 210 and now i'm 170, lean, cut up and i don't want to ruin what i've worked hard for. I just started bulking again at 3,400 calories. My diet is very clean. I am also currently doing GHRP-2 100mcg x2 daily. Any advice to avoid fat gain while using this medication, should i do more cardio?

It's a little complicated to explain without drawing it out in explanation. My advice would be to lower your total caloric intake by roughly 10% to start. Propranolol is a non-selective sympathoplegic beta-receptor blocker (SNS). Essentially it can have an impact on basal metabolic rate.

I'm on a beta blocker (carvedilol) in addition to some other meds for my heart, but about all I can offer is to keep your eye on the scales and the mirror. If you start seeing things you don't like, tweak your diet. Also, if you start noticing you're feeling more tired than usual or feel as if you are short on air, make a note of it and mention it to your PCP.
Try not to stress about it too much. Being overly nervous can cause you to overeat just as easy as it can cause you to miss meals.

There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

Ask your Dr. to put you on Topomax. It's regululary given to people on Seroquel and other anti-psychotics and which cause weight gain. It will curb your appetite. The lowest dose is far too low, 25mg, you'll have to work with him but prob need somewhere in the range of over 100mg/day. It's developed as an anti-migraine, anti-seizure medication but one of the side affects was people on those stuff that made them balloon up suddenly started finding their appetite under control. I had an ex-girlfriend once who had bi-polar disorder and she went to an outpatient program where most of the patients were either bi-polar or schizo-affective and all of them were on stuff that made them gain a lot of weight and the Dr offered Topomax to those concerned with gaining weight and it worked. If I were you I would maybe google Topomax (Topiramate) and check out the recommended dosages for curbing appetite. Then just have a serious talk with your Doc or find a new one. You can always get a second opinion. Best of luck. -Jitzer
