Too protein in one sitting? Please help.

Hey folks, Jitzer here. Quick question about protein. I know some guys that consume literally 90 or more grams of protein in one sitting, ie. meal followed by protein shake or however they choose to do it. Then I've heard from other guys that that's pointless because the body can't digest more than approximately 40 grams of protein and then one must wait 2.5 to 3 hours at least to consume another 40 grams or so. They said roughly anything over that amount just gets flushed out of your system and into the toilet. I understand that about 1.5 grams of protein per lb of body weight is ideal and it's best to space it out throughout the day in smaller, more frequent meals, however sometimes it can be convenient to slam down a large portion of protein at once especially if its been a busy day and you weren't able to stay on schedule. So the question is this: Is there a limit to the amount of protein that a healthy man can digest and be used by the body and after a certain amount of protein it's basically wasting it because the body just can't handle it or can a healthy guy down 90 or 100 grams and have it all be digested and put to good use by the body. All feedback welcome. Thanks in advance. -Jitzer

I think its 2:1 protein to weigh not 1.5
And when you ask if its healthy do you mean will it harm you? I dont think so, you just piss it out like you said

And thats a general rule of thumb, but your size and the amount of stress you put on your body also have to do with how much protein you can take in cause in certain situations your body might need more

The body is a highly efficient machine. It wastes nothing. You could consume all your protein macros in one sitting, sure......but is that the most optimal way to trigger and maximize muscle protein synthesis, no.

Protein macro requirements will vary greatly between individuals, at a minimum 0.5g/lb but it could be as high as 3g/lb. Generally 1.5g is sufficient. More protein does not equal more MPS. You need to find the amount that works for you.

Similarly its also more optimal to break down your protein consumption into smaller portions 40g seems to be a generally good amount to trigger and maximize MPS.

Lastly in terms of timing, the post workout window is null, and the peri-workout window is more important.

Here are two very good articles that will be very beneficial reading.
