    Quick oats vs rolled oats?

I read an article that claimed quick oats are heavily processed, hence the body doesn't get all the nutrition as claimed.

Are rolled oats really a lot better than instant oats?

I am guessing steel cut are probably the best but one can't put steel cut oats in a shake.

What kind of oats do you use?

Yes, less processed is better, but in the end, it's hardly a difference worth worrying about. I use Quaker 1-min oats in the microwave if I'm in a hurry, (not the packaged kind full of sugar), or Whole Grain rolled oats if I have time to cook them (they'll be a little more fluffier and filling), and Steel Cut are even better, but like I said, the difference is tiny compared to what really matters,... Your macros and cals for the day. I keep both in stock in the pantry. Cook what suits you. Add some good stuff in like cinnamon and raw honey, and don't worry about it... Yum!

I eat all my oats raw anyway, just blended into my shakes (So fine you cant detect it). However I thought Steel, Rolled an Instant all had the same nutritional values? They only difference is cooking time, and texture once cooked.

I us min oats. I'm sure there is a difference in nutrition value but it can't be worth the time spent on the other oats.

Quick oats are rolled oats. They're just chopped up so that they absorb water and cook faster.

I think this is the argument. Rolled oats are cut, heated and processed to make quick oats - hence less absorption.

I can't find the article again to check whether it was a random blog or something well put together.

i go with what 45 said about it being that the nutritional advantage of the whole oats doesnt outweight the quicker oat advantages

i also put em in my shake and eat raw from time to time when i need more food in my shake

i tried steel cut oats for the first and last time last year

I asked this question for learning/knowledge purposes.

I also put em in my shakes but i am TRYING to replace shakes/oats with real food.

    Thanks for your response guys.

Consensus is there is no significant difference.

No significant nutritional change, if any. You will digest quick oats quicker though because they have already been substantially broken down compared to whole oats.

I doubt your GI tract can tell the difference once it has been soaked in boiling water, chewed up, and digested by hydrochloric acid.
Or chopped up with a blender...

The way I see it, quick oats are just minimizing wear and tear on my blender.
