    100 gram protein drink

Although I eat 6 times a day, I find it difficult to get enough protein in. I weigh 200. I have been pounding 100g of protein powder as one of my meals. My system handles it fine. Does anyone think 100g at a time is way too much? Thx.

I’m not sure it’s a total waste but it’s definitely not optimal. I regularly have 50g protein shakes within a couple hours. The thing is real food is where you want to be for optimum nutrition.

I land somewhere between 25-65 grams of protein per meal. Not sure if that is perfectly optimal.

You can only digest 6-10 grams of protein a hour and whey is so quickly digested your definitely wasting it..split it throughout the day..I drink 4-5 20 gram shakes through the day..

The best time to have a protein shake is first thing in the morning and right after a work out. So maybe split those 100g into 2 shakes at those times for optimal absorption.

How much protein are you trying to eat per day?

The biggest factor by far in muscle protein synthesis (MPS) is the leucine content of the meal. Studies show that there's a pretty linear connection between them for around 3 grams of leucine, then it flattens out, so it's best to shoot for that with every meal. That's about 36g high quality whey or 150g chicken breast. However the 3g number is just an average, a lot of things can affect it, for example women and older people need more protein for the same MPS response. On the other hand, guys on gear might need less.

It's also worth noting that there should be at least 3 hours between meals, it takes that much time for MPS to "reset", and any protein sooner than that won't result in an optimal MPS response. There are studies supporting this, and interestingly it fits the age old "wait 3 hours between meals" bodybuilder wisdom.

I’ve heard that before but that doesn’t make sense. That means if you eat 2 really big chicken breasts~80-100g protein you’d be digesting that protein for possibly 20 hours?

I think the best way to use shakes is to actually drink them with meals instead of always between meals. It’s surely true that you don’t have enough time to actually digest all the protein from a liquid passing through your GI tract. But if you take that shake with a meal and it slows down how fast it’s passing through your system that should mean better absorption. That’s my theory at least!

No it just means the majority gets excreted..we take way more protein than is necessary especially if you follow this 1.5 grams per pound of body weight..but if you don’t fill those calories with protein, than what?a increase in the two other macronutrients will lead to a increase in adipose tissue..

Well I actually wrote that myself, not that u're gonna believe it since that would mean u were wrong. I hope that in between your meals u'll find the time to learn some manners though.

Disproven by every major institution - WHo, NIH, Journal of Exercise Physiology, NLM, etc.

    That information is simply incorrect.

Which part, the waiting 3 hours between meals? For me it seemed pretty rock solid that MPS returns to basal at around 3 hours, and there's a cap on the level of MPS that can be achieved by a meal, so it makes sense to me to space out the protein. Here's a study where they continuously infused amino acids, but MPS returned to basal regardless:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2278544/

Another one from the Journal of Exercise Physiology, during a 12 hour window, 20g protein every 3 hours was superior to both 2*40g or 8*10g (same total protein). Supports the every 3 hour rule.

But I'm happy to update my views if there's evidence to the contrary, I just haven't seen it yet.

“The way you speak is feminine”?? Wtf does that even mean? What difference does it make! What if he was a girl? Would that make a difference about what he’s saying?

Plus that’s absolutely absurd. Your saying that his writing sounds feminine? Lmao!

I don’t know one way or the other if what he’s saying is true and frankly I could care less. There’s no need to be a douche man

Me? I never say anything rude to anyone. I can’t stand fags like you who think they’re bad cuz they’ve been here for a while. All I want is to help this forum cuz I’ve really liked my experience here but I see guys like you that aren’t cool to the new guys especially. Dont you want this forum to grow? Talking shit to the newbs isn’t gonna do that. Anyone can talk shit from a keyboard like you. I don’t do that cuz that’s such pussy shit. I’d rather tell you what’s on my mind and let you get upset. You’re such a bad mofo. Talk some more shit.

How would u know that I'm cherry picking? I tried to find anything useful on the subject, but I haven't seen any study yet that contradicts this.

That's ironic, since u're the one who's been throwing a tantrum here, craves attention more than an instagram hoe and obsessed by his looks and how other guys are feminine or not, projecting his own insecurities. Which gender does that remind me of? Right. The way I talk is how grown-ups do, something u haven't experienced yet coz u have the maturity of a 16 year old. Now u can go and be "compassionate" somewhere else, I'm gonna ignore u in the future.

If you’d been around longer you’d know I’m proud of my body and achievement because of what I’ve been through and the depression I’ve defeated. I love to be the best me ever and could care less about what anyone thinks. I live to inspire and have been blessed to have that ability. I don’t even use social media and don’t get offended by what others say. You’ll always be what you are because you lack the mental awareness to be able to see through obvious bull $hit.

im very scientifically literate but I abstain from jerking off studies too often nowadays, real world experience is simply not measurable. i havn't really read the thread but yeah it bugs me when people cherry pick a single study and claim that study is absolute and can't be disputed to any degree lol

I think we can all agree that milk (leucine) helps muscle growth substantially. Fat loss as well I noticed and I feel 1000x better in general

your body needs to be refurbished and sent back to the factory if it can't grow muscle drinking lots of chocolate milk everyday lol

    But I’m lactose intolerant.

On a more more serious note - there are as many opinions/studies on this topic as there are participants to this thread.

Personally - of all the stuff I have read I am of the opinion that the ‘bro science’ stuff about protein limits is nonsense. It’s a macro nutrient.
ultimately if I eat 3000kcal a day. It doesn’t matter what those macro nutrient splits are if we’re talking purely from a calories in/out perspective. (Note: I didn’t say body composition!)

Excessive amounts of protein will not be synthesised as previously discussed, it’s just a calorie source. 100g protein shake is just a 400kcal meal replacement, and a waste of money.

There was a thread here before some some years ago which got quite a it of traction about nutrient timing. The crux of that was that pretty much doesn’t matter whether you get your calories/macros in over 12 meals or 3. When I eat a meal - it takes a goodly while to pass through my digestive system. It’s not a single hit of any one nutrient.

I personally use no shakes, and only whole foods. I just find it much better for digestion, and my office is grateful that I don’t fart anymore.

Probably lost my train of thought there, but yeah...

I agree here. 100g of protein in a single meal is not that much and something we can easily assimilate (heck thats simply a single 12 oz steak .. your average soccer mom can consume that at the local steak house plus some).
100+ g of protein in single meals is something humans and carnivore mammals have been doing for a million years. going days and days without food, and then making a kill or a successful hunt and gorging on pounds and pounds of meat is what we've done throughout evolution.
Lions are huge, jacked, and muscular.. they eat pounds of meat in one sitting and only about once per week. they are clearly assimilating all that protein in one sitting just fine.
Wolfs are the same way. make a kill, have a large bolus meal of protein and then don't eat for a week. and in the animal kingdom the digestive system of a dog is the most similar to that of a human (lol no its not fucking monkeys or chimps that resemble our digestive system at all , its dogs. probably why we can co habitate with a dog, mans best friend, cause we can both survive on the same food and eat the same way)

again, 100g of protein in one meal is not even a very big meal. an average size steak and thats it.. saying a normal person cannot digest assimilate and process a small steak is ludacris imo and goes against evolutionary history of our species and similar carnivores.
we would not of ever evolved to this point if we couldn't assimilate that much protein in a single meal

Oh fuck you're crazy man! Arent you aware our bodies are all designed en masse like Dell computers and can only process X amount of protein per hour no matter what?! Wtf is evolution or adaption?
