    Rice cakes pre show?

Curious what the strategy is for people loading up on rice cake pre show? Don't carbs make you retain water which would bloat you?

    Don't shoot, just asking...

They are inexpensive, low calorie but high volume of food. Not everyone eats rice cakes either

A rice cake has like 5 grams of carbs.

There’s nothing magical about them. They’re high volume to a low calorie ratio, and usually have a fair amount of sodium. Other than that, there’s almost nothing to them.

this is the facts . and no its not bro science and its real biological science .

rice cakes work because they are a waterless carb. they are 'dried out' yet they are still a CarboHYDRATE. Meaning they are still going to pull water .
and when you've taken diuretics, pulled your sodium, and stopped drinking fluids all together just before the show , and you take in rice cakes , the only water they have to pull from to load as glycogen is sub q water from under you skin and around your organs .
so they are in fact making your more dry and yet hard and full looking in the process .
this is why they are a go to and it works . even though most people don't know this shit or how it actually works

Oh do they key is rice cakes but no water. Pulling the subq water into the muscle. Makes sense.

yes . you can't load glycogen without fluid . for every molecule of glycogen loaded it carries 3-5x its weight in water .. if you don't take in hydrated carbs like wet rice, and use rice cakes instead, the carb will pull water from wherever it can and load as glycogen.. and in this way you will actually pull sub q water and put it into muscle cells .

btw - this is totally person and situation dependent . some people pre contest don't need rice cakes and they actually need water and sodium . some people may just need rice cakes with almond butter and extra fats . it all depends

What about pop corn? Not like buttery fatning pop corn. Like bland ass regular popcorn. Wouldn't that be a dry carb?

Mmhmm, as are breads that don’t contain a bunch of fat, cereals that don’t have a bunch of fat or fructose (think shit like Chex and low fiber bran cereals), etc.
I’ve seen people get absurd refeed results with plain bagels as well.

The only problem with dry refeeds is that they will make your mouth feel like desert hell through the whole process of eating and for several hours afterward. Not a huge deal though.

you have to be careful of the fiber content of your 'dry carbs' .. to much fiber will not load glycogen and end up pulling water into the intestines and make you bloated . one reason why guys show up on stage with distended stomachs

How long before should you stay away from fiber?

they key is to keep it consistent .. if you been getting in 20g of fiber per day with certain foods for your entire 12 week prep. then stick with that during peak week. don't change that drastically just cause you have to carb load on Thursday. don't suddenly start carb loading on tons of fruit when you have not been eating that same fruit all contest prep (big Ramy comes to mind cause he made that mistake one year at Olympia)
