cottage cheese, i read, is casein whey protein. what the hell is that? a mix of the two? anyway, i thought it was only a whey protein, so if this is true, can i use it for my post w/o protein with carbs? is it fast acting enough?

i wouldnt. . .unless u are getting fat free, too much fats for PWO IMO
Not only that it's slow digesting like MAD.........that's why people utilize it before bed as it lasts quite a while when you are asleep. PWO, you want FAST acting items, not slow digesting ones.
