General question on how to find extra info on a source

I will not post the name of the source. I was wondering if there was anyway other than google and other forums to check validity of source. The one I used previously has limited options and need some things they do not have. Yet the new place while ranking decently high on domestic us review boards also has some really bad reviews at the same time. Also they state they certified reseller of a brand but that brands website is closed. I'm not asking for sources I just want to know if there was any other way to check the place out.
