Told my Doctor today too - Levels Question

Met with my urologist today to get my PSA results. I checked the box for a testosterone (total & free) test when I had blood taken a few days ago. My PSA was normal but the doc asked why the test test. My previous levels were 240 awhile back. I told him I started HRT (from the internet). He smiled and said he would check my test each time now. I've been taking 150mg inj every six days and my levels were 1000 total - 41 free (he said 9-30 normal). I told him I'd cut back some. In my mid 50's, is 1000 level too high? Thanks.
p.s. he also said men with low test levels get more aggressive prostate cancer.

i think that popular opinion including mine would say that it matters more how you feel than an actual number as some require a higher level to achieve the level of well being....on all my bloodwork 1000 is a high but still normal figure...i believe the range is like 275-1200...just my .02
glad you're doc is on board with your internet hrt program

I understand that 1000 is at the high end of normal. I was hoping for others to indicate what level they stay on.

Your Uro is right about low test and aggressive prostate cancer as there were several studies that indicated this to be so but they were talking about men with normally low test vs men with normally high test., not men who were taking exogenous test (injections). Also when they gave test to hypogonadal men, their PSA's went up but not above the normal level. Your Uro will probably keep a check on your PSA from now on too. If your PSA suddenly shoots up or it doubles, you could be in trouble. There were also many studies indicating there was no correlation or connection between testosterone and prostate cancer. However if you should get prostate cancer, taking injections of test will make it grow much faster and more agressively. Kinda like throwing gasoline on a fire. My advice would be to keep your test level down around 500-600 if you are only interested in HRT. I took test for 13 years starting at age 55 and kept my level around 500-600 and it worked just fine in all respects. Jumped it up to 1000 a couple times and didn't notice any difference. Sometimes "more" is not better! Now if you are weight lifting and want to get bigger and stronger, you'd be better off getting an anabolic steroid and stack it with the test. You can get plenty of good info on this in the anabolic section.
