HRT problems (Sleep Apnea)
3 years ago I went on T cyp @ 250 mg/wk. Blood test showed 400 t level ( pre therapy) but my doc assumed MY normal was much higher at one time, so I went on HRT. Within 2 months I had developed sleep apnea and have never felt worse in my life. I went off T cyp and began to sleep and feel better very quickly. My natural T soon returned to pre HRT level.
Recently my levels were in the 295 range and Doc is pushing HRT again, but I can't stand the thought of sleep apnea again. Doc thinks it will be best to start HRT and get a CPAP, but I don't know...
Any input from you guys?
Also, I retained water like a sponge last time.Last edited by elicotton; 10-11-2006 at 09:21 PM.

The first thing I noticed was that I was wide awake all the time. My energy levels picked up It was much easier to get out of bed in the morning. Also, every two to three days I would get like spontaneously uncontrollably(sp?) horny for an hour or so, but the rest of the time any affect on my sex drive was not noticable.

As a sufferer of sleep apnea myself I understand what you are going through. Don't assume that the CPAP machine is also the right answer. Actually sleep apnia is a contradiction to the use of testosterone mainly due to the water retention that can occur. You may want your doctor to start you out on a low dosage of testosterone along with a low dosage of anastrozole to help out with the water retention issues. You may have in look into other variations of the testosterone that he is using. With the use of propionate you may not have as much water retention but may suffer with frequent injections. Another option may be sust test. We have found that water retention that is usually associated with single esters like enanthate or cypionate there tends to be more water retention due to the conversion to estrogen.
Also you may really want to reduce sodium intake while on your therapy and really monitor this portion as from what I have noticed on a personal note that this causes the apnea to get worse on days that my sodium intake is higher.
If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or call us directly. Hope this helps some. But like Lion said it is something serious that most people don't even realize until they suffer from it.
