Starting the TRT quest
I am age 35 and looking at getting into TRT. I am going to see my gen doc next week sometime and hopefully he's not a tool about it and sends me out for the blood tests etc.
I also got in touch with a HRT clinic here in town, asking questions.. they want me to come in for a consult @ $100, i told them I'd be in touch and kinda chuckled when I realized that these people would give me whatever I wanted but at a crazy high price. They mentioned that "We look forward to helping you achieve you goals!", that was off the hook.
anyways, if I am able to get scripted by my gen doc, what is the better way to go as far as results are concerned if my only choices are the patch or the gel? Obviously, I want to reap the benefits in the gym and elsewhere. Given that both dosages are the same and not taking into account rashes or other concernes, which one performs better? I am not opposed to weekly/bi weekly injects and would prefer that - but - I get the feeling that my gen doc will not want to start with injections (if he would do anything at all).
On the clinic front, it made me wonder what it actually costs to get scripted there and maintain the program for test replacement. I know that HGH is so big now that people are spending thousands a year on just that. Personally I'd like to start off with just the test and go from there, anyone got any numbers of what those places usually dryfvck you for?Last edited by sprintr; 09-27-2007 at 02:07 PM.

HGH without insurance will run you over a grand plus the cost of the consult. First time, I would definite go the legit way and see your doc, but your levels have to be low. STRESS the symptoms to your doc; constant fatigue, failure to get erections, loss of sex drive, depressed,no motivation, increased body fat. The doctor can't run a test on how you actually feel, only on what your blood levels are. So if they are remotely low and you have the obvious symptoms of "low testosterone " he should perscribe. You may also want to look into manipulating your levels your self. Good luck

I feel like I have to point in the direction of TRT to the doc, is that the right way to go? Say something like 'Yea, I think i'm low T?'. What have any of you guys done? I'd hate to try to let them figure it out on their own that could take years lol.

I told my doctor what my symptoms were, had some bloodwork completed. Then he prescribed Androderm Patches for me. I wear three patches a day, the last time i had my total test checked it was in the high 300 zone.
Also after I remove the patches from the previous day, I squeeze out any remaining gel left inside the patch and spread it on my torso. I did that everyday for a month and my levels peaked around 1100 total test. So I can vary the ammount of test I receive depending on how I feel.
Good Luck,
CR
p.s. Been on the patches for 10 months, hope to switch to injectables soon.

Sprint, Tell your doc you just read mens health, ( they had a huge article on testosterone levels ) and you believe "low test" to be your problem. Then maybe tell him of a friend who had a similar problem, who was placed on TRT and now has a new life. If your doctor is still unreceptive after a few hints, it's time to find a new doc. You shouldn't have to search too long. But you must TELL him/her what you are looking for, you'd be suprised what you can get by just asking.

Cool, great info - thanks folks. I'll be hitting him up maybe this coming week. If that doesn't pan out, I might try to go through a doc that is a friend of the in-laws, I hear she does HGH and stuff in the office so I bet she's alright with TRT also.
I would have just gone that route - but her office is at least 5 hours away from where I live.. I've done her some favors in the past (brownie points imo) but i think it will prove to be worth it if my local doc is a boob.

on second thought, I think I'll just proceed with the doc I know. If that doesn't pan out, the next step is the local one I guess. This is worth a road trip imo

GO TO AN ANTI AGING PHYSICIAN. STICK WITH THE INJECTIONS. HGH, TEST AND A GOOD POST CYCLE THERAPY . VERY EXPENSIVE BUT SAFE AND LEGAL. HRT IS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. DOES A BODY GOOD.

So, here I was really thinking that I had low test... Needless to say, I have high natural test in fact - the doctor asked me if I was on gear ROFL.
I'm 35 :
my total test was 907 reference interval suggests 241-827 wow, WTF (labcorp)
free test was 13.5 reference interval suggests 8.7-25.1
Estradiol was 21 (0-53 what kind of reference interval is that? lol)
LH 3.3
FSH 4.4
TSH 2.715
I guess deez nuts are producing.
My IGF was a tad on the low end, tho. Maybe hGH therapy is in order? We'll see next time I visit the doc, I guess.

I don't know man it's strange, I was shocked when I found out what my levels where (the test was around 11am, had been up since around 7am also) I have never had a lot of the things associated with a high test male.. I don't have a lot of facial hair, no chest/back hair, not a terribly deep voice either.
It's wierd, I get morning wood about every couple of weeks.. wouldn't someone with that sort of natural test be havin it every morning? I used to have it every morning and sometimes the shit would wake me up at night, but that is few and far between now.

you can have high total test all day long, but FREE test is the only one worth anything. And right there you are right in the middle. You see free test is the active hormone, the rest is bound up by sex hormone binding globulin and albumin.
So really, your kinda about average.

I just got a doc for trt. I had to get blood work and fill out a medical questionare. They sent me a 4 page list of items available to me. This is a legit doc who is licensed in all 50 states. I will be getting my scripts on Monday. Minimum dispensing on test is 200-300 mgs in 10 mil vials and not just the basic tests. I know we can't put out prices for sources but this is a legit doc. I can't pm as I don't have enough posts per the rules.

So lets say i was to get on 200m/week of test e, that free test would go up, right? And this free test that isn't bound to anything is the part responsible for things like, morning wood, building muscle and the like? Isn't it a little odd to see test over the high end, but free test still average?
