    Low test?

I'm sure some will view this post with suspicion, because of my other post in the steroid forum. But, there shouldn't be any harm in posting this at any rate (I hope not).

Anyway, several years ago I had my test levels tested, I had problems such as fatigue, low libido, memory problems, didn't have drive to do anything, was extremely irritable.

The tests came back as 400, maybe slightly above, out of a scale of 1,000 I believe. Doc said they were "low normal" (exact words). So, should low normal be considered a problem? My symptoms have only gotten worse.

Yes but your free testosterone is the most important. Get checked again, free and total

Right. I thought free testosterone was what he tested, it has been a long time so I am not sure. I suppose I'll just get re-tested.

make sure you list your stats
and symptoms are more important than the numbers to some docs as should be but numbers are more concrete and necessary
did you pose this same question to the doctor you speak of and what steps have been taken since the 400 something test bloodork 2 years ago....did the doc say you were fine....take your money...then show you the door? did he give you viagra, etc.? I mean you paid this guy to tell you that your test level is 400 and it is low normal...end of story til now?

I didn't mention the low libido thing, was too embarressed (yea I know it was a mistake). He said it was "low normal" and said it wasn't much to worry about. So, bascially he didn't do anything. The clinic I go to has replaced him, so I'll see what I can do as far as getting a better doc.

I had the same type of response from my Internist. First, when I suggested the test (based on my own research) his response was to prescribe me an anti-depressant/anxiety medication.

When I persisted, he had the bloodwork done (3 times over 3 days!!) and it came back low (117 on a 1000 scale) he suggested that "these levels fluctuate" and recommended I come back in 3 months!

Hell, I might have blown my brains out if I had to live like THAT for 3 more months! So, I found a new doc . . . .

You should keep looking for a Doc willing to help you!

you guys need to know that most docs will treat the symptoms more then the test levels, but yes you also have to have low normal and free range

So, exactly what should I do to convince a doc otherwise? Simply telling them the facts won't do anything, will it?

    DFubar:

Even after my doc had the facts (low test) he still wouldn't budge. I have been seeing this guy for 15 years and the last 6 years he has been throwing meds at my depression, pain, non-existant libido, etc, etc.

He would write refill after refill for strong pain meds, but wouldn't even discuss TRT! I STILL don't get it!

If you don't get any results from this guy, try another Uro or Endo. If you are desperate enough, you may have to take control and find one of the "National" clinics and pay the bucks. If you need a name, PM me. (I hope that didn't break any board rules)

But try the Doc route first.

Although I am a newbie to TRT and this is my own opinion; I am far from being unfamiliar with trying to find a Doc to help and the frustration that comes from being blown off . . . . .

Good luck and let us know your results!

I wonder how likely a GP is to prescribe TRT?
