Lab resluts...a bit confusing
Ok group hear me out...
42yo male...currently off cycle
I just got a call from my endocrinologist's office and they want me back in to discuss my Free and Total testosterone levels .
The nurse said my results were the following:
Total = 188 (she stated was 'low')
Free = 2.4 (she stated was 'high')
This contraindicates the following I found on a sticky here ...
According the the info listed below a 'normal rage of Free testosterone should range from 12.4 - 210 pg/ml.
If that's the case...my Free testosterone is VERY LOW, right?
Help me figure this out.
Thanks

Maybe she made a mistake. You have all the info you need to dispute that your free test is high based on the level of 2.4 . I believe that I read on this site in a post, that some Dr.s wont treat you if you have normal free test level, no matter what your total is. When is your appt. I'm sure you will find out as soon as you go to the the Endo. Good luck.

My appointment is Tomorrow at Noon. The literature printed here when I conducted a search resulted a value range of 20 to 300, depending on the source. If that's truely the case, I should be VERY low. Why they flagged it high, I have no Idea.
How should I handle tomorrow's appt. Will a low total and a high free test results signal that I'm using gear? I am using prop and took a week off before I had the bloodwork completed.
My libido is bad, which, prop made me a horny toad. My gains in the gym are down, but I believe my T-3 or cytomel is the cause.
I asked to have an estrodol and LH be drawn yesterday, and they did it.
Any prep questions I need to ask? Seriously, I have absolutely no sex drive at all.

I just had my blood done at Quest and for free test the range states 0.8-1.8 ng/dl. Mine was 1.5 and if yours was "Free = 2.4 (she stated was 'high')" the doc is right, it's high.

How did the appointment go? Were you in fact high on free test?

Apparently so. He changed my 200mg of cyp q 3 weeks to 5 grams of Androgel ED. All I can say about the Androgel is that I have morning wood again.
I am looking into caber/dosinex. I hear it's great but expensive. PM me with a link please.
Thanks

You can't go by something someone posted on here. Each lab is different. You have to go by the normal ranges posted by that lab due to their testing methods and units they use in calculating it.
Some labs may have a range of 200-800 pg/mL free test while others are 300-1500 pg/mL
It also depends on an interpretation from a physician based on your personal medical history. No offense to nurses but they don't know anything. All she can do is look at the lab results and if it says H then she tells you it's high, if it says L then she tells you it's low. They are just reading the numbers on the page. Your doctor might find that something within normal limits might be too low for you, but it won't show up as low on a lab result. So take what the nurse tells you with a grain of salt until the doctor tells you what is really going on.

Thanks binder. I completely understand what you are saying. When I met with the Endo, he didn't report whether or not it was high or low, rather, switched me from cyp to androgel .

What was the unit? Are you sure she did not mean free is 2.4 % of total? I don't know if that is high, but you need to check the units and also the lab reference ranges.
