    armour thyroid

    hi,

Does going on armour thyroid or any type of thyroid hormone long term affect the health of the person in the long run. I am even assuming that after a while on thyroid hormone the person should be able to achieve optimal levels. I am just concerned that being on armour thyroid or other thyroid hormone could affect a persons dna because of the fact that your living on pig hormones and not a healthy human thyroid. Is there a big difference in quality of life by being on armour thyroid compared to having a normal thyroid. It is hard to determine how healthy someone is by just looking at them so it is hard to determine if my own health is adequate compared to someone else.

I used thyroid hormone off and on for several yrs in an attempt to loose weight. I am now permamnently on thyroid hormone due to that. At least thats what my endo said. Alot of it depends on how much you use, how long you use it and whether or not you have a predisposition for thyroid issues. I do know lots of people who have sucessfully used it for short periods of time and had no problems. The key is to be educated about how to use it!! Read up and pay attention to the EXPERIENCED users on the board!!

Man I sure wish I could help you with this. I did Google Armour Thyroid and came up with this article.

    http://www.antiaging-systems.com/a2z/thyroid.htm

Read the last paragraph. Maybe that will be of some help. Good luck.

I read that article! Good info! I would recommend that you get some blood wrok done before you do anything. If I am not mistaken there is a normal range somewhere between .50 and 5.0?????. I could be wrong on that! So if you are in the lower range there might be a safe dosage fore you. What are your goals for taking it??????

As to the quality of life issue, other than having to take a pill everyday for the rest of your life there is no real issue. It takes some time to get your levels right but afterwards life is normal. I take armour and I am very happy with it!

My doc put me on Armour as part of his get fit with HRT campaign. I have read and heard horror stories about people under or over doing this med as well as people stuck on it for life.

I take alot of supplements along with lyrica for back pain. I put them all in a container and take on a daily basis. Well, for the past few months I have accidently failed to include the Armour thyroid. When I realised this...I freaked. Then, I realised I did not feel any different than when I was on the stuff. I'm staying off.

Please do not use my experience as any sort of guide. I believe the sides could be different for everyone and messing around with your doses could cause peril...but in my case I am stoked because it's just one less thing going into my body. YMMV.
