Androgel 25mg Looking for what I can expect & advice

Does this go here or over in diet? I think here due to the HRT I am on.

Looking for help, info, this is what happened to me, dialog, reassurance etc...

I was put on 25mg of Androgel the last month of my fitness challenge. I am into my 3rd month of use.

I have defiantly noticed a change in my temperament and attitude; it has improved.

Stats:

As of 12/27/10:
43 years old
Male
222lb
5’11
Total test 171
Bf 40 (Body fat from dig scale)

Stats as of Today:
43 years old
Male
Last total test 253: (I low balled this test by only using 1/3 of the packet for 2 days)
Bf 33: (scale reading) it is slowly dropping
201lb: (I have been 205-197lb for over a month)

I have varied a little from the diet I was put on during the challenge; varied meaning not being as rigid. For one thing I have added berries to my daily oats, and I have succumbed to the wife’s dinner fixins. I still eat my skinless chicken and sweet potatoes for lunch. 8oz of grape juice right before I work out and 3 scoops of whey after a work out. Dinner is always a ???.

So I can not give a “this is what I eat” list like I should be able to. I can give you an overview of what I try to do daily or what I did yesterday.

My goal is not to “bulk up” I want to get in shape. I want to be able to keep up with my 18 year old son when we go hiking & paint balling. I want to run around with my 15 year old daughter on the soccer field. I want to get rid of most of my belly fat; I don’t want to be “the fat guy.”

I have done good at most of this but the fat. I have dropped inches & lb’s. I need to buy new shirts & pants. A daughter of one of my employees that has not seen me in 6-8 months saw me the other day and called me “slim Jim.”

I am now jogging for 6 miles at a 6.5mph; My endurance has gone way up.

What I am saying is I have made progress and I am still making progress.

I am just not sure what to do next with this Androgel & my work out regimen. I have almost stopped loosing weight but, I am adding size to by arms and legs. People see a difference so “I am hoping” my body is changing but not on the scale and this has me frustrated. I would like to be 190lb and leaner not 200lb and lean (I guess, I don’t really know why but for some reason I want to be below 200lb.)

Anyway anyone that wants to start dialoging with me feel free.

Grendel, first, welcome! I'm relatively new here too and have received a lot of good feedback from people in similar situations. Don't skew your bloodwork by laying off the dosage. You need to know where you really are to adjust from there. Not sure what amount your actually taking? the next paragraph I pasted from an earlier post of mine. Get your B/W done in the am so you have a baseline, assuming you apply first thing in the am. On BW days apply afterward.


Anyway, my doc and endocrinologist put me on Androgel 5mg. Eventually upped it to 10 then 15mg (12 pumps.) We settled on 10 pumps per day. Although the script is still for 15 so I'm copping an extra bottle a month for me. It actually works great. I apply every day first thing in the morning except on blood test days where I skip application, get blood pulled then apply. So, my T level 25 hrs after application runs in the 400 to 500's. I did do one test recently 5 hrs after application and my level was over 850. Has anyone else had blood work done during different times of the day showing the range in T level with Androgel?

Get off the scale and judge yourself by the mirror. Muscle is heavier than fat so if your losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time you may not see that much of a difference on the scale. You don't take the scale to the beach or hiking/playing with your kids. I do hear you though, I've got an 8 yr old boy myself so it's understood. Keep up the resistance training and cardio and just give it time. You did not get in that shape overnight and you won't get perfect quickly either. But you are on the right track. Keep working hard and you'll get there brother!

I low balled the last test on purposes. I hopes hopes to stay the same & hopefully not have to drop down in dosage. The Dr. I have is very leery on the HRT.

I understand doing that. If the doc is leery make sure your getting what you need. Don't let him treat you like a number. Make sure you get treated by how you feel! If he won't work with you, maybe find an Endocrinologist. He'd probably be more up on it anyway. The A-gel works awesome for me.

I would like to know what my true test score is i believe it would help if I knew the true score. Does anyone know how to go about getting a blood test without a Dr script?

I also do stretching while at the gym religiously I have found it does some good with back problems. Is this a good site to ask about stretching? I don’t see much talk about it?

25mg?! Holy sh!t man, I thought 5mg/day was bad enough. Where the hell do you spread it all?

As far as your fitness goals, if you're in a normal range of test with the Gel, you can think of it as being on a "level playing field" with everyone else who has accomplished similar goals. Just be sure to get your diet and training on lock and be consistent and results will come.

Yeah...not saying he is incorrect, but the gel is dosed in grams, with milligrams being the absorbed dosage (approx.). I had trouble finding places for 10gms. of the gel to be applied. Can't imagine 25 gms. of gel to apply.

Best of luck to the OP. Steady progress is pretty satisfying...so concentrate on making small increments of progress and before you know it...you'll be a different man. I lost about 50 pounds in the last year and the difference is pretty remarkable. P90X is still kicking my arse though.

hope this works this time. Just showing what i have. with all the talk about 5mgg & 10mg i am concerned that i may be wrong about the dose. I am green to this stuff (drugs) in general. i have stayed away from them my whole life and now i am getting a crash course in dosage and what goes with what and when; it sucks getting old.

by reading the packet it looks like i have 2.5g to spread.

those packets(2.5mg) look like half the normal starting dose for every day application(5mg) of which normally the strength is 50mg but the absorbtion is 1% which yields just as it says 5mg..

in your case one packet applied daily would YIELD you only 2.5mg of test after absorbtion ONLY which is PITIFUL....if one is low T a good starting dose would be minimum 5mg(2 or your packets) and most likely still too little...4 of your packets would yield you 70mg of test per week at 10mg per day which imo is where to START trt whether it be androgel or an equally yielding testosterone intramuscular shot

Questions for my understanding, bear with me please

It does make since that this Dr. would start me off will a very low dose.

On the large box that holds the each dose packets it reads 25mg of test per dose is that normal? And why 25mg per dose of test = 2.5mg of test?

(this may be elementary to you but please).

jpkman is on target. Most people here do favor the injections but I'm still doing great on the gel, so for now I'll stay with it. I do suggest you at least have him write you for the pump version. Way more convenient.

the packet contains THAT MUCH (25mg) HOWEVER the absorbtion rate is 1% YIELDING 2.5 MG (not to confuse more but APPROXIMATELY :) )

Ok, so it looks like I did good by low balling my last blood test. FYI without HRT my bt was 171, the last bt (w/HRT) i came in at 241.
This now clears things up for me. I have been wondering why I have not felt the emotional change or seen a fat burning change like others have described; among other things.

Yea....if you are only on a 2.5gm packet a day...well , that isn't even the normal starting dose of Androgel. Most guys start at 5gms. and I was on 10gms. at one point. Just hard to find places on your torso to put 10gms. of gel. The pump bottle version is much easier to use, so see if your doctor will write that next time around. Hopefully he brings your dosage levels up some.

I didn't know the stuff existed that strong.
Years ago I was using the 5 mg and never saw a physical change nor anything else as to what it was prescribed for.
Right now, considering looking into injections, but first I am browsing the site to see what I can learn about them.
In the gym 5 or six days/week and would love to see some results.

FYI 5gms of Androgel barely put me into the 200s after my natty production shut down. If 2.5gms alone is putting you at 241 I'm shocked.
