A "funny" follow-up to my original post on this one. My endo's office assistant just called me to let me know that my lab results are "stable" and no recommendation from the endo for a dosage change was noted. Now I already had my lab results and they are low outside the normal range for total and free testosterone....so they don't look so hot to me. Dosage was 100mg. test. cyp. e10d with labs on 10th day. My libido died on this dosage...but the endo appears to think the numbers are sort of OK.
A change of strategy may be necessary.
Oh...haven't posted up stats for a while, for those who are interested:
age 55
5'10"
weight 205lbs.
bf...who knows, but I have lost 50 pounds over the last year from diet and exercise.
Last update to this thread for me. Endo.'s office called saying they could get me into the office this morning...I took it. Had a more candid discussion with the doctor about my levels. He doesn't think he can help me with higher dosage and that greater frequency of injection won't be much help either. He believes that the injections have a big swing in levels and that is what may be causing my libido problem. His alternate solution is back to the gel or do implantable pellets. I agreed to have my pharm. send me more gel (for now). Note that I did somewhat better on the gel than I have with injectible test., but he isn't really willing to do much tweaking with dosage/frequency.
I asked about HCG. He knew about its use and how it might help men, but explained that it would be expensive and he didn't think he could get it covered for me. On AI's, he also knows about usage/purpose, but again felt it might be controversial and probably not coverable by insurance. My guess is he could be better informed about TRT for men, but isn't totally in the dark, and is trying to play it safe from a legal perspective, or just isn't willing to argue with my (very good) insurance.
So, I'm looking for a new doctor and not sure what I will find, but it is worth a try. This endo. and the gel scrip. can be my fallback position for now. Leftover test. cyp. can be reserved for minor blasts...maybe.
And for you gel guys...did you know that there is a new 1.62% Androgel out now (or very soon)? The original gel was only a 1% testosterone compound. I didn't. Doctor didn't seem to know that either and I'm not sure what I'll be sent by my pharmacy.
well i hope the gel will have better effect on you, and i hope you get the 1.62%! good plan to look for another doc while keeping this one for a backup!
glad your shopping around but still have a "source" for the time being...
i agree...your doctor is just being a little weasily imo...if he wrote a script for arimidex IT WOULD be approved
Jeeeezus H !!!!! What happens to Doctors after they become established in a practice, do they mysteriously become illiterate? Keep looking Bro, there has got to be at least a handful of them that can read for krist sake!!
im about to start on TRT, and Im about to get my last bloodwork done before i beging treatment. From what ive read on forums, TEST CYP seems to be the best option at a 100mg/week pace. The GP doctor that im with right now says that the Cyp injections can only be done at his office because his order of the Test come directly to his office. However, i wanna be able to do it myself at my own convenience and time.
I am planning to ask him after the bloodwork is done if it is somehow possible to let me get it done myself. I doubt that will happen from how he was explaining it. I am going to see an Endo in a couple weeks. Do most Endos allow their patients to self inject Test-Cyp?? I am hoping he will allow it since I do not want to have to deal with office visits every week.
thanks man. will do that
i cant seeem to find a link to let me create a new feed. i dont know why i am not seein it
forum-select forum(hrt/longevity/anti aging..in this case)-then just below advertisement banner you will see post new thread..click that and wellah
So I monitor this forum on a weekly basis and rarely reply unless I have something meaningful to say. I wanted to provide you with my personal experience from HRT over the past 10 months. First some background, I am a 45 year old male, 6' tall, workout 4 times per week and prior to HRT I had the following symptoms:
1) Low sex drive. Not good, my wife has always been a very sexual woman.
2) Lower energy levels especially during work outs
3) Increased weigh gain and mid-section fat. Prior to HRT I weighed 235 lbs and my waist grew to 38". (I was becoming a fat boy)
4) Not sleeping well. 3-4 hours sleep at night.
5) Seemed that my penis and testicles were shrinking.
Initially my test levels tested at 220 Total Test/12.5 Free Test. My doctor put me on 220 mg of test cyp per week. After 8 weeks he retested and my total test was 1225/28.5 Free test. He then changed my treatment to 180 mg of test cyp , 2x1000 IU of HCG (Monday/Friday) and 2x1 mg of Arimidex (Monday/Friday) per week. 3 months later he retested and the results were total test 880/34.5 Free test. He has kept me on the same treatment since and my levels have stayed virtually the same. Below are the results after 10 months:
1) Strong sex drive. It is almost like being 24 years old again. I wake up with a woody everyday.
2) Increased sexual indurance. This was something I did not expect but now I can go for as long as I want to without ejaculating. Not sure why this is (maybe the HCG), I have always been someone who could last a while with concentration but never quite like this. Wife is very, very happy these days.
3) I lost 35 lbs over the last 10 months. My waist is now 35".
4) I have increased muscle mass greatly. I have I had to go out and by all new clothes and get my suits re-tailored.
5) I sleep like a baby. Getting at least 7 hours sleep every night.
6) Increased flaccid and erect penis size. (Another thing we did not expect) Nothing too earth shattering here guys, so don't go thinking you are going to grow a python, from what we can tell is that I am back to almost the same size as when I was in my 20's. We noticed over the years that my penis was about 3/4" smaller in girth and 1" inch shorter. HRT seems to have reversed this somewhat.
From our personal experience, HRT has changed our life greatly. I can tell you from my experience that prior to HRT I tried several over the counter supplements (all the latest fad pills - you know the list) to address my lower T-levels and libido and none of them seemed to work at all. I have come to the conclusion that these supplements are all hype. If you are middle-aged and notice the symptoms that I have listed above, I encourage you to see a men's health doctor and see about getting on HRT. I will stay on this for the rest of my life if possible as I have not felt this good in 20 years.
I hope this helps. DN
DN - I know you didn't mean to purposely, but you sort of hijacked the OP's thread with your post. Why not cut this and paste into a new thread so everyone can respond to your post. Great to seeing you do so well and welcome to the forum; please don't hesitate to participate in discussions; there are a bunch of great guys here!
gd
thats kind of what i was getting at too with my half parenthesis smartass welcome![]()
sorry jeff
Oops, that was not my intent. Sorry about that.
great post, DR. glad to know your treatment has been going well. i hope i will feel the same benefits as you do once i begin my TRT pretty soon
curryman - it will take a couple of weeks before you start feeling the full affects. For me, after two weeks i began to feel like my old self again and after about 4 - 6 weeks I felt 100% better. I have no negative issues with this treatment except for occasional pimple or two on my chest or back but not full blow acne. Let us know how it goes...
Take care. DN
