I don't know, but sort of assumed that bio-identical was being directed at women whose hormones have become "unbalanced"...particularly later in life as menopause nears. For guys, I just assume you would get some sort of supplemental testosterone ...maybe from a compounding pharmacy with DHEA and pregnenalone thrown in to help things.

The lack of studies and FDA approval is smoke and mirrors. A lot of this is thrown up by people (pharmacy companies) trying to ensure that people use their product.
Bio-identical hormones cannot be copyrighted. As such, there is no money to be made from them since a company cannot be the sole distrubitor. But, bio-identical hormones are used in a couple products. For example, Testosterone cream/gel has bio-identical Testosterone in it. The cream/gel as a whole product is copyrighted and has had a ton of studies done and is FDA approved.
Test Cyp is almost bio-identical. They shoved an ester onto the end of the bio-identical Test molecule and copyrighted that. In the body, the ester drops off over time and you are left with the bio-identical Test floating in the body. There have been tons of studies on Test Cyp and it is FDA approved.
