Zinc as a testosterone booster
I reviewed the literature recently on zinc. There are several studies which indicates that it can raise free/ total testosterone by acting as an AI. another study stated that 90 plus percent of us are deficient of this mineral. Wondering about others opinions whether they take it or not?

When I was younger I took it and noticed a difference, but not when i was older.

I take it. It's been talked about here and on our ancillary forums for a while now as an adjunct to controlling E. B6 also.

I've read a lot of data on mega-doses of Zinc in the past as well, there's an odd sweet spot for taking it:
Doses of as much as 100 milligrams daily showed no effect on prostate cancer risk in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, which tracked 47,000 men for 14 years. But men who took more than 100 milligrams a day were about twice as likely to develop advanced prostate cancers....Zinc supplements raise testosterone production. Supplements manufacturers have been claiming this for years, but researchers as the Firat University in Turkey confirmed the claim a few years ago after doing animal and human studies. We read the articles and were convinced. Zinc works. But whether it’s healthy to boost your testosterone level by taking zinc? We doubt it.
[...]
If you weigh 80 kg and you want to use zinc in similar doses to those used by the Turkish wrestlers, you’ll need to take 240 mg zinc sulfate a day [appr. 80 mg elemental zinc].
Long-term use of such high doses of zinc is not safe. Researchers have reported side-effects from much lower intake levels. According to Chinese researchers, a daily dose of 50 mg zinc leads to higher cholesterol levels in humans within a couple of weeks. [Wei Sheng Yan Jiu. 2004 Nov;33(6):727-31.]
The American epidemiologists Walter Willett and Ed Giovannucci discovered that zinc supplements at doses higher than 100 mg per day increased the risk of prostate cancer by a factor of 2.2. [J Natl Cancer Inst. 2003 Jul 2;95(13):1004-7.]

Most are deficient in Zinc.
50mg per day should be sufficient.
Make sure there is copper in your multi as well.
Men need zinc.

I'm on 50mg per day too. I read that even a short period of time(a week) without proper levels of zinc in you will reduce muscle building capacity and leave you more vulnerable to infections because of weaker immune-system.
It also contributes to testosterone sinthesis as well as other bio-chem processes that take place in our body including cell development

I had my zinc tested... I actually wasn't low and I don't particularly have a zinc rich diet nor did I supplement it.
My advice is to just get it tested the next time you do bloods.
Nonetheless, I wanted to raise my level a little higher and started taking a basic zinc picolinate supplement that has a little copper in it as well. It's very inexpensive. I think it was like 4 dollars for around 90-120 pills.
