MRI for Pec tear= Thyroid issue?
I posted a little over 4 weeks ago about a pec strain/tear I suffered while benching. Due to insurance issues and scheduling w/ my PCP I just now have the results of my MRI. The MRI confirms a complete tear of the Pectoralis Major at the myotendinous junction; simply I tore the pec muscle from the tendon leaving the tendon on the bone. I am not sure how this is repaired (if at all) I am seeing the surgeon on Monday. I wasn’t expecting this; I was expecting a tear from the Humerus and a more common repair surgery to follow. I’ll keep you all posted
A side not and a secondary diagnosis /Impression from the MRI I have an enlarged thyroid gland w/ an indeterminate left thyroid gland complex cystic nodule. WTF is that? I am scheduled for an Ultrasound and a “FULL” round of blood work. I am also being referred to an Endo. For follow-up.
The PCP who I recently saw is not my TRT doc; I do not have the old BW to fall back on. I will obviously need them for comparison once the new BW is drawn. I am very interested in learning how much (if any) of my low T is due to my Thyroid issues.
A second side note: The MRI also located a partial (50%) tear at the anterior leading edge of the supraspinatus tendon w/in the rotator cuff. This I will have to live w/ for now, some pain in throwing a ball but not enough to encourage surgery.
As for the tendon and muscle issues; I would like to thank my younger self for the years of heavy lifting, improper warm-up procedures and piss poor stretching for creating this issue at mid-life.

Make sure you see a good ortho doc. One who has a sports medicine fellowship or a shoulder/elbow fellowship

Kel - thanks, I'm on it and will read thru the info., I'm more nervous about the Thyroid then I am the muscle tear. I believe it's because I understand the mechanism around the tear and the possible follow-up options. The Thyroid is a mystery to me until the tests are in, could be nothing - could be something or anywhere in between. Physically I feel good (minus the pec), I am hoping that counts for something.
mnt - I am seeing an orth w/ Rothman Inst here in Phila., he is also the ortho physician for the Phila Eagles.

Sorry to hear, but hopefully it will at least get you one step closer as far as figuring out what your body is doing.
As for the blame on bad warm ups and stretching, don't be so quick to jump to that conclusion, it could have been more along the lines of how you lifted, your form, and other aspects of what you did, and even exercise choices, as some exercises that a lot of kids commonly do put weird strain and pressure on your body.

Sometimes injuries just happen and there's really no precursor to them. It sounds like you'll be in good hands Herm.
