I'm trying to find out the same thing. I've had two Dr. ordered requisitions for the Sensitive Assay for males estrogen/estradiol test, and according to B.C. Biomedical labs, the test is not available in Canada.

I'd also like to know what is/are the major differences in the regular estradiol test, and the sensitive assay test that makes the sensitive assay test that much better, and more "accurate"?

I am in Canada also, and my understanding is that you canot get a "sensitive assay" for E2 here? If you can, will someone tell me how?

On my last blood work, my results were:

    Total T: 18.5 (range 6.0-27.0 NMOL/L)
    Free T: 115.2 (range 15.6-146 PMOL/L)
    Estradiol: < 73 (range 0-172 PMOL/L)

My doc said my E2 was undetectable, so I have reduced my AI.

Can I dial in my E2 using a "normal" E2 test like this, or do I absolutely need the "sensitive assay" -- which I do not believe I can get!!

I recently found out that the Estradiol test that B.C. Biomedical Labs runs IS the "sensitive assay" E2 test.

We have to remember that what is important is the reference ranges...esp the high end mark.

The sensitive assay E2 test that LabCorp performs uses the Roche ECLIA method, (which stands for Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay) and has a reference range of 7.6 - 42.6 pg/ml.

The test that B.C. Biomedical Labs performs uses the Roche Electrochemiluminescence method as well, (they just don't include the word "immunoassay" in their title, but it's the same test) and has a reference range of < 156 pmol/L, which converts to < 42.6 pg/ml.

They may display the reference ranges differently, but they are the same test.

I've even spoken to the head of B.C. Biomedical Labs, and he assured me that they are in fact the same tests.

So the Estradiol E2 test that B.C. Biomedical Labs performs is the same sensitive assay Estradiol test that LabCorp performs.

Great news for all of us in B.C.

These guys -- and me! -- are in Canada. I don't think we can ship our blood cross border, or get the results, so for Canadians I don't think that link is an option.
