Dad's muscle wasting/low energy/etc.
What's up everyone?
Hoping for some help. My dad had prostate cancer approx. 6 years ago. The Dr. put him on Eligard (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000852/) after he had the radioactive BB's put in his prostate. (He heard horror stories about not being able to get it up after a full removal...however he was 65 when he had the surgery...lol) Anyway. The Eligard from what I read lowers his test levels, to keep from feeding the prostate. However, he has lost A LOT of weight. He never has any energy. Seems like he naps twice a day. I understand he's getting older, but at 65 he was 5'11, 220 lbs. He's down to around 175 now. Basically, his quality of life is severely diminished. Isn't there something he can take, perhaps a SERM of some sort maybe, that would help him to regain his strength, energy, etc? He refuses to get a second opinion, so I figured I would see if there was any help on here. Thanks again.

My only fear is the negative repercussions that testosterone can have on an already problematic area with cancerous activity. Finding a method to increase your dad's testosterone isn't difficult at all, but the obvious concern is nobody wants a relapse, or any increased chance of further complications.
This, IMO, would have to be strictly the call of a doctor. Not just any doctor, but one who truly knows the state of your dad's condition, and what route will be most beneficial to him.

prostate cancer is one of the very few contraindications for testosterone repla***ent.
unfortunately, we cannot really help your dad second hand and with such little info about him. his best bet is really to find a specialist in the medical field who deals with patients LIKE HIM. the bad news is... if he's unwilling to improve his life then you cannot do much other than try to not let it ruin yours too.

Much appreciated fellas. I totally agree with you guys in regard to "Dr. only diagnosis". My hopes was to get some sort of (admittedly quick) info to present to him. Obviously, I am able to reach out to the "experts" on the boards easier then I can get a Dr.'s attention. So, with this being said, he's in GA, I'm in Pittsburgh, Univ. of Pitt claims to be cancer center USA, so when he comes to visit in June, I'll drag his ass over there somehow and see what we can find. Thanks for the help gentlemen.

do yourself a favor and find a doctor who specializes in male hormones ahead of time... otherwise you may just be in for more headache.
