    Are these testosterone levels low?

I am a 23year old male, 5'7, 188 pounds. I went to my doctor for low T symptoms, fatigue, loss of libido, depression, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating etc. My test results came back from Quest and I believe they are low, My doctor does not think they are an issue.

    The results are -

    Total Testosterone: 278 Range: 250-1100 ng/dL

    Free Testosterone: 57.3 Range: 35.0-155.0 pg/mL

Are these results low for my age?

Yes, they are very low for your age and there are a number of medical conditions that can cause that to happen.

Did you get any more hormones tested other than these two? If so post them with ranges.

Did you get your Thyroid checked beyond TSH? If so post them with ranges.

Without more blood work it's impossible to help you understand what could be the cause.

At your age you should be at peak serum levels so this is not age related.

Is there anything in the past we should know about like medical history, injury, past use of AAS...?

Your free testosterone is acceptable which is why your doctor is not going to do anything at your young age.

However, let him know the medical standard for diagnosing testosterone deficiencies is to get a second (early am) test and go from there.

Thanks for the quick response! About 3 years ago I lost my job and my apartment in the same week and became really depressed, the depression and stress led to my OCD resurfacing after 13years (had it as a child) 2 years ago I went on Celexa for my OCD/Depression and was on it for about a year before I decided to stop taking it as it wasn't really helping anything and I had started noticing hair loss which I assumed was caused by the celexa. It has been a year off of it and new symptoms had all started surfacing pointing towards low testosterone. I havent taken any medications in over a year. I found on this test I also have high Total Cholesterol and Triglycerides, which do not match my diet.

More results from the same test:

    Cholesterol Total: 217 Range: 125 - 200 mg/dL
    Triglycerides 251 Range: <150 mg/dL
    TSH W/Reflex to FT4: 1.48 Range: 0.40 - 4.50 mUI/L
    T3 FREE: 3.4 Range: 2.3 - 4.2 pg/mL
    T3 TOTAL: 102 Range: 76 - 181 ng/dL
    T3 UPTAKE: 31 Range: 22-35 %

Agree above. Total serum range should be 348 - 1197 btw.

So what should I do if I am having the symptoms but can not receive the help for it? Is it something else causing my symptoms?

IMO for a man his age his Free is still low (albeit in range) and in conjunction with low total points to a potential problem.

My doc would do much further testing on him I can say that with certainty ecd.

Also noting what GD said, however, the typical GP is not going to do anything and I think this is fine. I would suspect even if additional testing were done (short of some major pathology) there is really very little that would be done without bringing in a specialist - which is always a route to pursue.

You have alot going on so the issue is rather complicated.

Diet and exercise (along with proper weight) can help alot with increasing test levels, so I wouldn't discount that approach.

I still would recommend you get one more early morning, fasting test level done, and if possible, an expanded male hormone panel.

well they are an issue because the numbers could probably be higher, but no I definitely don't think you need to be on trt right now.

you obviously are functioning, it's probably just not optimal. take vitamin d for starters

but also look at the many ways to raise your T to optimal levels. I certainly would if I had your symptoms and numbers. make no mistake, trt is not a miracle quick fix .

he has the TT of an 80 year old man and the fT isnt too far behind, for a 22 year old in the prime of his life these levels are very low- you are too young for trt- it is the last resort at this age. You need to find a dr thats willing to help you increase your natural test levels.
I dont know guys but could his HTPA be suppressed from his previous medication?
    found this.

Celexa Sexual Side Effects: An Overview
Celexa® (citalopram hydrobromide), like all selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), is known to cause certain sexual side effects. Celexa sexual side effects may include:

Decreased sex drive or orgasm problems
    Ejaculation problems
Impotence (also known as erectile dysfunction or ED)
Priapism, a painful erection that does not go away.

sounds like something is not right with this drug and its effecting his test levels..
i know im the aromasin cheer squad head leader here- but if he printed the report for aromasin in young men study and showed his dr would he be a good candidate for a HPTA restart?
