Proof That Gel/Cream Transfer is Detrimental

So my wife is on a 2x daily application of a compounded cream from her HRT doctor, which consists of a estrogen/progesterone mix. She applies this in the morning, and at night.

Our 5 year old bengal female was fixed when she was 5 months old. She's a show quality cat, and we originally thought about letting her breed, until she went into heat at 3 months old. It was miserable on her, as it was on on us.

About a week or so ago, she started this screaming her head off routine every 15 minutes. Then it was obvious by demonstration of her body movements that she was in heat. How could that be possible? She was fixed along time ago, and she is normally just a very easy going, somewhat quiet cat. Then it registered ... I told my wife that her hormones had to be causing this. Both our veterinarian and my wife's HRT doctor confirmed this was indeed the cause.

My wife has changed her application process and all is normal again at the vette household. For those that discount the potential of transdermal applications transferring to others and having an impact, think again, it's indeed a possibility.

That is some good looking fur.

definitely something to be careful with. I can't imagine what the effect would have on children over time if you didn't notice it right away.

If it can effect a cat with fur that easily imagine how it could effect children...WOW!

She's bred down from the Asian Leopard. We have two of them, the female and a male. Thank God the male was also fixed are we would have had a fiasco in our house.

Well if it happens again you could always inject a few mgs test to reverse the effect

Exactly!!! And it wasn't like my wife was paying all that much attention to the cat. Usually, the female cat will spend 80% of her time with me when I'm home, and the male tends to hang around my wife.

On the other hand, I think I need to run my own E2 lab sooner than later. If my cat is going into heat, surely I'm getting some of the residual of it as well. Based on what I know about myself, my protocols, AI dosage, etc., I would expect to be somewhere in the 26 to 34 range with Labcorp. I would have some serious suspicions if it was 35< .

I still have a bottle of Androgel that's like 4 years old. Told my wife we could get our male to grow a mane if we rubbed it on him, LOL.

Not too get too clinical about this, but ya' know cats are always preening and licking themselves, so I wouldn't be surprised if the estrogen/progesterone entered via an oral route.

It's not something kids typically do, so it's hard to draw a one-to-one conclusion.

My fear back when I used Axiron and the stuff dripped everywhere on the countertop/sink - the fact it doesn't decompose means that everything in the bathroom is potentially contaminated until the next cleaning.

Gel and kids... Not sure about the actual reality of it, but there was an episode of House that was probably based on true events somewhere. A single dad was using the gel, and his kids went into puberty way ahead of schedule. The hilarious bit was watching the sexually aggressive boy, who was maybe ten, trying to get in the pants of one of the hot female doctors....
