So my wife is on a 2x daily application of a compounded cream from her HRT doctor, which consists of a estrogen/progesterone mix. She applies this in the morning, and at night.
Our 5 year old bengal female was fixed when she was 5 months old. She's a show quality cat, and we originally thought about letting her breed, until she went into heat at 3 months old. It was miserable on her, as it was on on us.
About a week or so ago, she started this screaming her head off routine every 15 minutes. Then it was obvious by demonstration of her body movements that she was in heat. How could that be possible? She was fixed along time ago, and she is normally just a very easy going, somewhat quiet cat. Then it registered ... I told my wife that her hormones had to be causing this. Both our veterinarian and my wife's HRT doctor confirmed this was indeed the cause.
My wife has changed her application process and all is normal again at the vette household. For those that discount the potential of transdermal applications transferring to others and having an impact, think again, it's indeed a possibility.
