    Zinc Question

I take Zinc as a part of a 450mg ZMA supplement before bed as well as 50mg by itself in the morning. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on taking Zinc? How much you take and and at what time of day?

    Thanks!!!

For most men 50mg of Zinc a day is more than enough.

The recommended daily zinc requirement is 8 mg for adult women and 11 mg for adult men.

Whether your zinc intake is provided by the foods you eat or the vitamins you take, there is such a thing as too much zinc.

How much is too much Zinc you ask?

In order to achieve 8 mg or 11 mg of zinc per day, you actually need to consume more than that because your body absorbs approximately 20%-40% of the zinc it digests. It is safe to take zinc supplements with an approximate 40 mg – 50 mg zinc content on a daily basis along with 2mg of copper.

Let's say you consume 100 mg – 500 mg per day, you will experience serious neg side effects. The longer you “overdose” on zinc, the worse your side effects will be...and they are not good.

Too much Zinc will also block the absorbtion of other supplements and nutrients from foods you eat.

It will also deplete copper in your blood stream and you need copper to stay alive!

Thanks for the Great info! I will stay with what I am on now and not increase. I read an article that Brazil Nuts help raise testosterone levels and they contain a lot of Zinc.

    Thanks!!!

Then supplement with vit D if your not already. It will reduce shbg levels which = more free T.

No real need to ramp up. I do a prescription D which is one pill a week @ 50K IU

Thanks for the tip! I'll start taking the 5,000 iu. I'm guessing at 50k iu it must slowly release into your system?
