Coping with TRT
Hi guys my name is Victor and im 24 years old,
I was just wondering how people that started TRT felt and how you coped with the change? The reason I ask is because I have been suffering with low testosterone since i was 13 years old and i don't know how it feels to be normal. I'm going in for my first shot tomorrow (hopefully) and wanted to know what i can expect.
Also a related question,
Could young occasional alcohol consumption have stunted my testosterone production?Last edited by Vahevahe; 12-06-2012 at 04:21 PM.

Hi Victor! First shot tomorrow huh. Did you doctor find a causative factor for your low T? How low are you and what is the range used? Hopefully all avenues have been exhausted in effort to regain a normal T level and your doc isn't just putting a band aid on the problem.
At your age there has to be something causing this. Pathology, trauma, thyroid, etc. So many things can cause low T and many doctors just don't really know how to analyze and/or treat patients with this condition. If you have some current BW post it up quick with ranges so we can take a look. Really hate to see you take this leap if it is avoidable.
Re: alcohol question. Only temporarily while your system recovers. Funny thing is, small amounts of alcohol can actually increase T production.
Welcome to the forum!

Hi kelkel thank you for your quick response,
Iv had 5 testosterone tests done and the highest came back at 325 which was at 8am in the morning with a range of 100-700. The other testosterone test which is at the top is 266 and the rang is 350-1200. The other results were 222 and 275. From what my doctor says they have narrowed it down to either a congenital or genetic cause. A bit of background info, i had 2 mri's of the head done , one with injection and one without. I have had a testicular ultrasound done, a chest xray, a chest ultra sound , a parathyroid ultrasound, a 24-hour urine analysis and more blood and urine tests that i would like to count all in a effort to find the cause of the low testosterone . My Endo ordered a sperm count but i was unable to complete it due to my body not working properly.I wanted to avoid trt too because of my age but looks like i dont really have a choice :/.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. I assume thyroid is good then right? What's your latest LH / FSH levels?

Yeah i think so the Tsh is 2.8 range .3-4.7. I was checked for thyroid antibodies also and that came back negative. Fsh was 5.9 with the range being 1.6-9 and lh was 4.2 with a range of 2-12.

Ok. So, LH on low end and you've ruled out pituitary adenomas as well as testicular issues. Varicoceles as well, right?

Yeah i had a exam for the varicoceles by a urologist and it was negative.I specifically checked in to the hospital to have all these tests done and to find the cause of the low t and they came back with Congenital or Genetic. Do you know if there is comprehensive test they can do to check for genetic problems or would they need to test for each genetic disease separately?

Don't know that answer. I don't envy your predicament but understand starting this protocol. It would just be great if your doc's could have put a finger on exactly what the cause was! Have you thought of taking a trip to one of the more well known doc's first?

Thank you bass i will look into that Not sure on the protocol yet gna find out tomorrow but i highly doubt its anything besides testosterone . I called her about HCG with trt and she said "no but come in to the office and we can discuss it further". Although i do have a protocol of 200mg(not sure of units) a week then retest after 4 weeks from another endo. Im so confused...its alot to take in at once and TRT seems high maintenance and i was hoping to avoid it.

I would like to point out that you do have a choice. TRT is not a life saving treatment. You won't die directly from low testosterone .
Have you done anything to bring your testosterone up naturally? Have your doctors talked about that to you at all?
Yes you are young, but that's both good and bad. If you gave me a young man or an old man and told me one of them has to bring up their testosterone, id put my money on the youthful one.
Dr Marc Gordon is one of the best in the field. I would go to him before without a second thought. Note, I am not a patient of his, but he is very highly regarded.
