Night Sweats on HRT -- E2 in FLux
The two biggest issues I have with HRT -- which I have been on since Sept 2012 -- are snoring more, and having night sweats.
Basically, 90% of the time I go to sleep, and wake up to pee around 1 or 2am, I have to change T-shirts and flip my pillow because of night sweat. I did not have this issue at all before HRT. In other words, I do not remember experienceing night sweats even 1x pre-HRT.
The research I have done tells me "when estrogen is in flux" you will experience night sweats. It can be a sign of "low E2" as well as a sign of "high E2", as well as a sign of "transitioning E2". For me, it is transitioning, as I am having a very difficult time getting my E2 in check.
1. Are there any HRTers that have night sweats more often then not, and have just learned to live with it?
2. Or do vets think that this is an issue that can and should be rectified, once things are dialed in, for 100% of people? (My fear is I am one of a minority of people that is just destined to have a very difficult time stabilizing E2, and may have to accept night sweats.)Last edited by junk2222yard; 02-10-2013 at 03:32 PM. 1. I had night sweats off and on for at least 6 months if not longer but they finally subsided and I have not had an issue with TRT for years.
Have you had blood work done to know it's an E2 issue? Dont just guess on it. What is your HRT protocol? How much test are you taking and how often? Are you taking any supplements such as DHEA, pregnenolone, B12 and Vit D?
Yes I get up to pee at night more than I use to although the doc says no prostate issue. Try some of the OTC prostate stuff to see if it helps. Part of my issue is I drink a LOT more water than I use to.

I have frequent blood work, and my E2 is still all over the place. It has been almost 6 months and I am still dialing things in.
I do 60mg Test E every 3 days, and currently am taking .25 Adex just after injecting. (I know most do 24 hours later -- didn't work for me.) I do .300iu hCG the day before.
I take 8000mg Vitamin D per day, 50mg DHEA, 25mg Preg, but no B12 except what I get in a multivitamin.
I cannot say I *know* E2 is causing my issue (is there any thing definite in this HRT game?) -- but because I do know my E2 is so wavering and sensitive, and I have read a lot of night sweat/E2 info and know there is a correlation -- I am making an educated guess that this is the issue.
I am happy to read that it took you 6+ months to have the night sweats subside. If I follow a similar trajectory it means they may abate soon! Thanks.

Do you have a complete thyroid panel that we could look at?

Lay a towel on the upper part of your bed! Had them once for unknown reasons looking back. May have been when getting dialed in if memory serves me correctly. And hey, when you wake up to pee it's a great time to have a quick, small protein drink to keep your body fueled with protein! It's what I do. It's warm but who cares!

Hey vettester, tomorrow I am having boodwork done for my "almost 6 month" point, and will be having TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 done too. (Did thyroid antibodies and came back negative -- but here in Canada they don't show you the details, just say negative!) I will post my extensive blood tests in a thread as soon as they come back. (In two weeks or so.)
Offhand, I will say from a few months back TSH was good, my Free T4 was low-middle, and my Free T3 was very low. Just barely within range. Based on that, and hypothyroid symptoms, my doc recently started me on Dessicated Thyroid, and I am currently ramping up the dose. (I am at 75mg currently, and will be at 90 tomorrow for two weeks, and then possibly raise it again by 15mg.)
Thanks for checking in on my thread -- I really appreciate your wisdom!

Yeah, I am not worried about waking up 1x to pee. Usually my daughter in the next room (21 months) cries for mama and daddy 1x per night, so I am getting up anyway. Awhile back I was waking up 2 - 3 times, and that wasn't cool. But I think things are stabilizing and 1x to pee for a mid-40s guy seems reasonable. (I do sometimes throw a handful of cashews in my mouth, but actually putting together a protein shake would probably wake me up too much.)
