Doctors... /sigh
Good news first. I went to see my primary doc, and explained how I've been seeing another doc for the past 8 months or so who has been treating me for low T. I explained that I was on a well established and accepted protocol, and it's proven to be effective for me so far. I asked if he'd be willing to take over treatment but maintain my current protocol, seeing as this other doc isn't covered under my insurance plan and I've had to pay out of pocket for office visits. My doc didn't even flinch and agreed!! I was surprised, because when I called months ago to inquire about TRT, I was told they'd only prescribe the patch or gel, etc. So big win here for me... no more $$$ out of my pocket for doc visits!!
The bad news - he's about as clueless as the rest of em' out there. When I brought up HCG , he said he had used it as well (during his own TRT treatment), and really noticed no benefit. He said that it DOES make you have more desire (for sex)... which had me scratching my head since I don't use HCG for that purpose. Either way, he said he'd be happy to continue prescribing it if I wanted it.
It get's worse from here. I explained why I wanted to continue the HCG... to "keep the boys working" ... that I wanted to have more kids, etc. He told me that so long as my test levels were within a 'normal' range of about 500-1000, I wouldn't get shutdown, and that would only happen if I were way up in the 5000 range and beyond. lol. I just don't get it. WHY are these guys so misinformed? I mean, these are the people who we rely on for our health!!! TRT is just one reason we see docs, and we happen to be informed. But what about all the other things people see docs for? They could be just as off the mark about those things, and uninformed people would have no idea, and get fcked up as a result. WTF!?!
Bottom line - I've been unsuccessful in finding a doc who REALLY knows what's up with TRT. I have this board, and that's it. The doc is there to fill my scripts and review labs. If anything is OBVIOUSLY wrong (CBC, lipids, etc) then i'm sure he'll notice and do something about it. For the 'heart' of the TRT program, I need to rely on you guys!

It's down right scary when you think about; misinformed or even clueless Medical Practitioners prescribing medical protocols they don't understand.
IMO, they should be reported to their state medical boards.
That's why self education and our great forum are necessary as you so well state gb.

My primary care assured me that TRT was just supplementation, and that my body would continue to produce it's own T along with the "supplemental" T I was injecting. I didn't argue, but was scared to know that I knew way more than him on this subject.

That's sad, I would continue to search for a doc who takes your insurance and can treat you. Forums can be helpful, but they can't replace a physician for many reasons.

You know, my doc actually admitted to me this afternoon that I was better informed in TRT protocols than they were. I was shocked. All thanks, of course, to you TRT/HRT mods, specialist and knowledgeable members who have given the best medical education regarding TRT one could receive outside of formal medical training. Hats off to all of you!!

^^^^That's why we're here...to see men just like you get the correct care and the resulting positive effects TRT can provide men.
It's a gift from God IMO

It really is crazy guys... and I agree with you 100% GD - they SHOULD be reported. They're clueless yet prescribing protocols and completely misinforming patients. Very, very scary.

[QUOTE="dreadnok89;6397794"]No clue the clinch
Sadly, our docs are a joke also. But for something like this we are often referred to a specialist. Even if only one or two visits.

Glad things are working out for you. I think I'll find somebody eventually... as TRT continues to pick up steam in the medical community, there are BOUND to be a few docs to surface who are worth a damn!
Eww... run from her... run far far away!!
Re: docs in NJ - nothing i'm aware of.
Our 'specialists' are endo's... who in my experience mostly deal with 80 year old diabetics and have no clue about TRT. The last endo I saw had his mind blown when I told him I was using HCG . He couldn't understand why, since "we use HCG for fertility". Duh. I'm keeping the boys working doc... WAKE UP!!!
