New here, very low testosterone at 19
Right now:
35 ng/dl (300-950 ng/dl)
FSH is less than 0.7 (1.24-7.8 IU/L)
LH is 0.5
MRI is negative
skeletal age is 17 with chronologic age for 19
old:
Hey guys, this is my first post here...found this by google. I read bits of the sticky...i'm 19 years old, 5'8", and 160 pounds
Did blood work and my testosterone is at 25. Did a second one in the morning to make sure and it was 35. Normal range is 300-1000 I think.
My family doctor referred me to endocrinologist...and now just waiting to make an appointment...no idea what he will do yet
been really concerned all this week...especially because it's so extremely low...is that even common...everyone here is like 200 testosterone when they started treatment...and i'm only 19 with 25-35
not much to say, thought about getting some opinions or if someone was like me and now better...
UPDATE 1: The blood tests that I did were: Cortisol Serum, FSH, LH, IGF I ECL, Prdlactin, TSH, T4 free, Testosterone T
and he also made me do X-Ray called wrist bone age.
UPDATE 2: he told me the blood results showed that they were low too and my body doesn't produce testosterone...only 29
and the X-ray showed that i'm not done growing yet...skeletal age is 17 with chronologic age for 19
He wants me to do a pituitary MRI...so right now waiting for authorization from my insurance
He thinks that I just have delayed puberty...so if he find no tumor then I start on treatment
he said he would probably do HCG so I don't become infertile
UPDATE 3: FSH is less than 0.7, LH is 0.5. IGF-1, cortisol, free t4, and tsh are all normalLast edited by sammm94; 05-25-2013 at 02:15 AM.

You don't happen to have full blood work do you? It'd be extremely helpful to see other hormonal values.

Im with ya man, my total was 50 and free 1.4%.
Are you or HAVE you been on any medications? Opioids, benzodiazepines? Such as oxycodone, methadone, hydrocodone? Even amphetamines like adderall, Dexedrine and ritilan will crash your test levels. Excessive alcohol use?
There's a storm of medications that consistently lower test levels over time. Ever used anabolic steroids or pro hormones? Your extremely young and have extremely low test, your endo def. needs to find out WHY your test is dismal. Your last resort is starting TRT at 19 years old. Your body still has much growing and maturing to do.
Take the time to get your hands on your blood work and post it here on this thread. Check out the stickys and follow procedure to receive the best advice. The pros on this forum will be more than willing to help you out but they will need ALOT more info about you. Your low test numbers just don't show us the whole spectrum. Let me know I'd you have any more questions and be sure to read the stickys!!!!! They hold the treasure to your future lol

Amphetamines, as well as many other drugs that block dopamine indirectly cause Prolactin levels to rise. Higher Prolactin levels result in reduced sex drive and may cause a downward trend in testosterone levels .
Amphetamines lower testosterone by increasing cAMP in the local testicle tissue. You can google amphetamine and testosterone or search Pubmed. This is also what Stephen Stahl says happens in Essential Psychopharmacology: the Prescriber's Guide. Men who experience a drop in libido on amphetamine would benefit from HCG and/or testosterone supplementation. Also keep the amp dosage to as low as possible, even to once every other day.
I was on 90mgs a day (3 30s morning, lunch, dinner) after graduating from college I winged myself off, my doc thinks the adderall was one of man reasons for my low test.

What symptoms do you have?
Why did you have your testosterone tested in the first place?

Did you cycle before?

Hang in there man. Assuming this isn't the consequence of an improper pct or something, it's much better that you found out sooner than later.
Be sure to ask for a pituitary MRI as well. Numbers that low at your age are usually indicative of more serious underlying pathology.

No, Only did total testosterone through my family doctor twice. I'm assuming the endo will do further testing before he start putting me on treatment
Never been on medication, unless you count stuff for teeth and pain. I drank alcohol since less than 10...but very very low amount and even when I grew up, I never drank too much, and have completely stopped now.
I know as a baby I had allergic reaction (too many used) to anti vomit medicine and had to go to emergency to get a shot or something...don't think that's related though
I asked my doctor to test it because I was worried about having ZERO facial hair at 19 and somewhere on the internet I saw testosterone and kinda had the same symptoms, he told me there is no need for testosterone check and that i'm fine but I still told him to test it and I was right. I have decreased energy, low sex drive, some depression, and weight gain/weak not sure if related
never.

OP, all of your symptoms are valid reasons to want to check your test serum levels. However, now that you know it's in the tank, you need to have a physician explore every reason for it happening in the first place.
First step, discovering if it is a pituitary related issue, or if it is testicular. Being that your serum is quite low, I suspect your LH/FSH levels are either going to be quite high, or quite low. That's the first step.
Second step, you need to find out if the failure is being caused by a tumor, cysts, or other pathologies. MRI's and various testicular exams from a good Urologist can help you with this. Others assays also need to be completely reviewed, including a complete thyroid w/antibodies assay.

I'd get everything chcked out... 19 years on this planet doesn't even seem like enough time to run a boys body into the ground like this!
Get a full thyroid and sex hormones panel.
I'd recommend a spectracell test too to see about nutrtional deficits...
Definitely don't just jump on TRT before you find a truly good doc and someone who listens to you.

Thanks for the replies everyone...this seems to be a cool forum with a lot of helpful people. I will defiantly make my doctor due a lot more further testing before I start anything. Also I will be posting the results and what my endo tells me when I see him

guys...my first appointment with the endocrinologist is tomorrow. What should I be expecting?
I feel like I should just let him do his job instead of telling him what to do like asking for MRI or other tests
I'm thinking he will just give me a paper to do more blood tests or ask me questions?
guys...another question...when I was about 11, I had swollen neck glands for about two weeks that I caught from another person...does that affect testosterone in any way? just thought I should ask since it could be relatedLast edited by sammm94; 03-10-2013 at 11:14 PM.

Hopefully your doc just does a good job for you...your test level needs to go higher somehow...your symptoms might all be from low T...hopefully you have a rare endo that is good with TRT, most only know diabetes it seems, maybe you will be lucky and he's on TRT himself.
You sound like you maybe had mumps when younger and yes I think I read that mumps can knock down a guy's test, so can head trauma and other things.
Good luck and tell us how your appointment went.

Just looked up mumps and yes I think that's what I had...my neck was swollen and couldn't do anything for two weeks
I googled mumps and low test and it's one of the causes :/ I will defiantly tell the doctor about it tomorrow
EDIT: Just looked up the Arabic name (that's how I know it) and it is mumps. I had it for two weeks when I was 11 and they put me on penicillin at the time I think
and my parents just told that when I was 3 I had swollen neck lymph nodes and not sure if that's related tooLast edited by sammm94; 03-11-2013 at 12:18 AM.

To add to some of the suggestions mumps would be a contributing factor and maybee the cause. A well rounded approach to solve this is to follow the advice of the more experienced members and get a mri done if possible. The problem is your levels are double digit which could point to genetic causes. Do you have any genetic deisese that run in the family tree like Klienfelters? Did you start puberty but not complete it? I would cancel out all of these one by one with genetic and idiopathic causes left for the end (longer testing).

Just saw my endo for the first time...he did few tests or whatever and asked some questions then gave me bloodwork paper to do and I would see him again in 2 weeks...he said he wants to find the cause then start with treatment...seems like a very cool guy and wants to make sure I get treated
The blood tests that I did were: Cortisol Serum, FSH, LH, IGF I ECL, Prdlactin, TSH, T4 free, Testosterone T
and he also made me do X-Ray called wrist bone age. He think that I will be growing more and he said the bone age could tell which height I will be

Went to him today for the second time, he told me the blood results showed that they were low too and my body doesn't produce testosterone ...only 29
and the X-ray showed that i'm not done growing yet...skeletal age is 17 at 19 years and 1 month
He wants me to do a pituitary MRI...so right now waiting for authorization from my insurance
He thinks that I just have delayed puberty...so if he find no tumor then I start on treatment

Sounds like he is doing all the right stuff with the MRI looking for tumor.
Good luck and keep us posted.
BTW now is a good time to start collecting all your records. Make sure you always get a copy of all test results.

Im just wondering if they are related or a another problem to fkin worry about
I seriously never felt worse in my life...minutes are passing like hours and feeling like shit :/

I would think they are strongly related but then I'm no expert in masturbation, maybe others will reply

Hey bro,
I'm EXTREMELY new....and going through ringer with ya..... Lots good fellas with TONS knowledge here..... One HUGE piece advice I'd like to give you is this:
get a REALY REALLY GOOD ENDOCRONOLOGIST ......research the heck out of him........ Because I wasted over 6months or so buying into a Drs stuff....all to have to start over
Other than that..... TEST EVERYTHING.....read, read read..... Be your own advocate, because the Dr will NOT be...
My 2 cents and expirience any way.....but thank The Lord for places like this and others, where I and you can meet some AMAZING people who just want to help there fellow man!!
I'll be Praying for you!
GOD BLESS!!

he sounds like a good endo. i plan on lying to my endo when isee her. i need an updated pituitary mri(ui had one in 2009 that showed a probable 2mm adenoma), and im worried she wont order one if i tell her i have had them in 2010 and 2011... so im just bringing her the 2009 report lol.
also bringing her my lowest testosterone blood work. sometimes you have to do for these dumb doctors to order testing

These results can be expressed in different units, so you need to include the units so we use the correct reference range. For example, a normal range at my lab is 2.6 - 11 ng/ml or 260-1100 ng/dl. Results can also be expressed in mol rather than nanogram, so please confirm the units of your result.

Hi sammm94,
How much do you workout? Do you run much? Also, how much do you eat (Calorie-wise)?

Dr wants to do HCG 3 times a week at 2000iu each...now waiting for insurance authorization.
cause is unknown right now and dr thinks its severely delayed puberty
35 ng/dl (300-950 ng/dl)
FSH is less than 0.7 (1.24-7.8 IU/L)
LH is 0.5
MRI is negative
skeletal age is 17 with chronologic age for 19
I don't do cardio other than warm up. Lift 5 days a week for 5 months now, lifts are weak...bench bress went from bar to 10s and can't go higher. Was cutting first 3 months and lost 15 pounds...but last 2 months I been lifting without having a good diet...so I gained like 4 pounds.
Hopefully will stop my binge and keep cutting again, will eat at around 1800 calories with 150g protein, 60g fat
-
05-25-2013, 06:49 PM #39
Quit working out five days a week - you're most likely over-training, which will hammer your endocrine system. The fact that you actually know how many Calories you eat (and macro breakdown) suggests you're over-training and under-eating; both factors will contribute to severe hypogonadism (this, I know from experience).
Am I right when I say you bench 65 ~ 85 lbs? ("bench press went from bar to 10s and can't go higher")
... I *think* your doctor may have a decent protocol by trying HCG for awhile. Whatever you do, try to avoid TRT until you've exhausted all other options. Keep us updated!

Well basically it's 4 days and I do a day just to do abs or maybe cardio, counting calories makes weight loss easy for me since I hate cardio...i'm losing it very slow tho...not trying to finish fast
and for bench I meant bar (45 lbs) and now about (65-75 lbs)
Dr said it will be very hard to convince the insurance to prescribe me HCG ..but hopefully I don't do trt
