    Hormone test recs

I had my husband's doc run a thyroid panel on him, because I suspected hypothyroidism, and after much argument, she agreed (she thought he had vitamin d deficiency), and his TSH is elevated, and his TPO antibodies are as well. So he has Hashi's.

He also had some questionable kidney results (elevated Na, urea and creatinine).

Given how I observe lots of coincidence of hypothyroidism and low testosterone in men on the board here, naturally now I am wondering about his hormones.

I expect getting hormones tested will be another battle, and I don't have time to do all the research I need to work out which tests are very important (and searching for recommended tests naturally returns 3.4 billion matches). I can't have a laundry list, because I am going to have to argue for these, so I need the basic ones that will point me in the right direction.

Would someone be willing to help? Doc appointment is at 9am.

We have the thyroid panel and all we need there.

I am asking which sex hormones need testing to determine whether there is a testosterone deficiency. Do we need total testosterone? Free? Which are the basic tests we need to determine whether sex hormones are ok?

I realise this is probably something everyone else here already knows, but I am not that learned about men's hormones!

Check out the sticky on finding a trt doc. There's a great list there for BW tests to look into for hypogonad/low-t

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but it's what I requested. It wasn't easy talking him into these, but my endo ok'd most if them. Good luck

testosterone total, LH and FSH are the most important IMO right off the bat. they will tell you (I believe) the most useful information for the fewest tests.

basically, this can tell if you the boys are making testosterone and how strong the signal from the brain is.
