My Chiropractor friend is driving me crazy about amount protein needed

She says that no one needs more than 45 grams of protein a day and that any more causes inflammation and increased risk for cancer. She tells her patients this and I am about to lose my freaking mind because of how stupid, dangerous, and uniformed it is. Anyone got a link that will totally squash this? There is tons out there but something that is simply irrefutable.

Why don't you ask her for her medical proof/studies to support her quackery. Then remind her she is a chiropractor.

as above, I would ask her for her sources. maybe you can learn something, you never know...

but there is another side to the story where people demand that athletes take 2g per pound or more of protein.

at best, the studies and research I did showed that people need a lot less than typically espoused online, and the amount with actual good science behind I was around the range of 1g of protein per kg to pound.

I'd be more interested in having someone focus on how much green stuff they eat though rather than protein...

she's probably looking at the BMI chart and assuming you are grossly obese too, right?

I have done a little bit of reading about all our heath problems coming from "inflammation" and it doesn't make sense to me. I see people writing books about it but I don't see research about it popping up on one of my favorite sites: sciencedaily.com - seriously, the health book industry should have to pay for all the people they have make sick or killed over the years.

I was going to once be a chiropractor. Couldn't seem to find the 20 hours free to complete the on line course though. Haha jk. Seriously though I kinda think chiropractors are witch doctors.

I actually know one who advised a family member the cure for their colon problems were to start juicing. (Veggies) Good thing she didn't listen.

To the OP, is less than 45 grams of protein/day really dangerous? Ideal, no (especially if the goal is muscle growth), but I don't think it is harmful to one's health.

Apparently (if you watch documentaries), veggie juicing actually does help to fight cancer. I have zero evidence for this other than watching all these documentaries on Netflix, etc. (granted some of them are ridiculously stupid).

That is actually not the argument. Her contention is more than 45 grams per day is dangerous and always detrimental to your health. I find telling patents that to be bordering on malpractice. Im sure some sedentary people can do quite well on 45 grams or less, thats not the argument.

I think Clarence Bass used to have a very low protein intake in his early books ripped. I think just about everyone I know that trains you need at least 1 gram per pound if weight training. 1.5 works for me.
