Is there a way to lower red blood cells with out giving blood?

I just got my labs back and my DR suggested he draw off some blood to lower my Red blood cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit. My levels where barley above the upper limits, but he seemed very concerned. I told him I would rather go donate blood then have him waste it. My question is, What can I do to lower this without getting blood drawn all the time?

Lowering test dose will not lower red cell and/or hematocrit. Once he is stabilized he could consider lowering his dose.

If your doctor is offering to dump some blood you take him up on the offer, you can donate some other time the need is always there. You never know what can happen at the donation place, you could get turned away.

He wont get turned away if he is slightly above 50%, most will take blood up to 54%.

The blood bank call me today and asked if I could come and donate tomorrow, funny how that works. I guess it's been 56 days since my last visit.

It does raise your BP and you will see a dip after donating. I have never found it to be a huge dip but it does help.

Thanks. Donating tomorrow. BP has been higher than normal. Going to restart in three weeks.
