Going off T with HCG and Anastrozole? 28 years old

I am 28 and have been on TRT for 1.5 years. I have been taking 125mg daily of a trans-dermal compound for about a year, and was on Testim before that. Never injected or used AAS. I started in order to treat depression, no energy or sexdrive, ED, etc. Without changing my diet or exercise whatsoever I lost 3 inches off my waist, regained my sex drive after about a year, and felt much better.

Prior to TRT, my total T was consistently below 350 for years, starting around age 22. My LH and FSH have always been on the lower side of normal, around 3-3.5.

During TRT, my total T has been between around 100 points higher, my free T around 10, SHBG normal, Vitamin D was low but brought within range. E2 was low normal, but partially due to very low dose anastrozole (.1-.2 mg 3x/week) Most importantly, my LH and FSH have barely changed, and have generally been 2-3.5 consistently. I also have a grade 2 Varicocele that the new urologist is not concerned with.

Due to the death of my doctor, I recently visited a good Urologist who is very knowledgeable when it comes to TRT with the intention of adding hcg . He gave me a sperm test, and I have remained very fertile. My testes do fluctuate in size, however they never really shrank.

After analyzing regular blood work over the past 3 years, and my sperm test, he believes my testicles are functional and I'm not really hypogonadal. For nearly a 4 year period, I was up at 7 and going to bed at 2am, drinking lots of coffee, taking Adderall, and was under tremendous stress while working and studying for rigorous CFA exams. However even at age 17 my total T was 500. MY doctor has told me to stop taking T, and has prescribed 1000iu EOD of HCG and .5mg EOD of Anastrozole. After 2 months, we will look at more blood work.

Does anyone have any experience with something similar? I am young and it appears I have some testicular function. My goal is to be off TRT entirely if it is not necessary, so I hope that this can work for me. While I can't find anything right now, I seem to recall some recent studies indicating that hcg by itself could be effective for a restart. Does anyone know the dosage and timeline for such a thing?

    Thanks!

given your goals and the confidence in your good doctor, I can't think of a reason not to try it.

quite frankly, it sounds like you're doing quite well and much better. id love for you to come back and post your follow up experiences.

just becaus your testicals function doesnt mean you dont need trt..your total test is low, and your lh and fsh are low. THT'S INTERESTING THAT THEY DIDNT CHANGE ON TRT.

1000 iu every other day is wayyy too much hcg . i just did a 6 week restart with hcg only and was prescribed 350 iu 3x per week although i rounded up to 400 .

500 max 3x per week is what id recommend..but id say 400 is good.

if you did well on trt might as well keep on it..your doctor doesnt sound that good.

He's quite good, and if I ever want to go back on it, he'll give it to me plus hcg and AI.

You just did a restart with only hcg after what exactly? A cycle? Long-term TRT? I believe my dosage is due to the duration of my T only treatment, and by looking at your posts, it looks like you are just doing hcg monotherapy.. I believe he wants to try to restore 100% of my fertility and see if I respond to LH. At my age, I don't want to be on TRT for life unless I absolutely need it.

Thanks for posting info on getting $80 hcg. My pharmacy and insurance can suck it.
