    SQ needle Size

I am happy with the 27g I use for Test, and the 29g I use for HCG . I do both SQ, around my belly and love handles. Both beedles are 12.7mm deep (half inch).

Can I go smaller? My gut tells me 12.7 seems longer than necessary. (No pun intended.) What do I need to safely go beyond skin, but not reach muscle?

I inject at a 45 degree angle, and don't pinch or smooth skin, just do it au naturel.

27g for oil. 30 to 31 for water. 1/2 inch.

I don't have the patients to attempt pushing oil through a smaller bore than 27g. And 1/2 inch depth is perfect for any volume 0.6ml or less.

Thanks, I am happy with the 27 and 29s I am using, what I want to know is can I go less deep than 12.7mm needle length, and if so, what size mm?

Well, any depth below the skin will absorb. Even intradermal. This has more to do with volume. 1/2 inch is a perfect depth to prevent near-skin lumps. I wouldn't bother with less than 1/2 inch. Is it bothering you or something?

Is it bothering me? Not a bunch. But it is funny, I am a year into HRT, and the anxiety of using needles is gone for the most part. But I have been noticing that .5" seems kinda long when you really look at it, and *may* risk going too far as my body gets leaner. Probably just in my head. But if skin is only 4mm (just a # I am throwing out there) why not use smaller than 12.7mm?

But hey, if you say 1/2" is the way to go -- with your 20k posts and vet status! -- I think I am going to heed your advice.

Both my test and HCG syringes are 3/8" in length and I have no issues.

lol. Well if you want to try a smaller depth, it's not going to hurt any. If you don't get any lumps, go for it!

    Austinite,
Talking about those lumps; how do you avoid them? I use 29ga, 1/2 inch for hCG and Test (very slowly). When I inject on the right side of my abs, I often get a lump. When I inject on the left, very seldom. Advice?

Switch locations. The abs suck. I always got lumps and bruised. Upper glutes are the way to go.

Lumps are really all about volume. For me, I find that 0.6ml or less is a good preventative measure. Others may require a smaller 'max' volume. I'm not sure why sides would make a difference other than uneven fat saturation.

I'm injecting .15mL (30mg) Test EOD. With hCG , I never get lumps. I'll try the love handles next time.
