please help - 22 and 304 ng/dl testosterone
I'm 22 and had my thyroid removed through radioactive iodine treatment when I was 20. I take a daily pill to control my thyroid levels, which are normal, but I haven't gained much muscle mass or strength in I'd say almost an entire year. I went to the doctor and had my testosterone levels checked, in the morning. The doctor told me that my results were fine because I was in the range. My testosterone levels are 304. This is practically not in the range at all. Testosterone goes down throughout the day so I imagine by the end of the day I'm below 300. I have NO libido. I recently started dating someone and noticed this problem. My er*ctions are weak or go away quickly. It's not nerves because it's started happening when I'm alone too (I'd say for a few months). I talked to the doctor and he prescribed me Vi*gra, and I had amazing s*x, although my p*nis did go slightly soft even then too. But I can't afford to purchase Vi*gra for the rest of my life, because it's $85 for three pills. I need to get this fixed NOW.
My doctor recommended that I try DHEA tablets, which I've noticed give me surges of confidence, and a feeling of walking on air that I haven't experienced in years. My libido also skyrockets when I take them, but only at first did they do that. I'm taking 25 mg tablets, and it was once a day, but I've changed it to twice a day because the feeling goes away. And I'm not talking about wanting a high, I feel as though I only feel normal when I take the DHEA supplements.
I feel confident that my testosterone levels are much too low. My doctor said I'm in the range, but I know that it's just too low. I'm practically not in range at all. It's like if I had made a 71 on a test in school, and everyone said, "Well, you passed!" A 71 is not good. A 71 is sh*t. I'm finally in a nice relationship and my libido is nonexistant, and I'm f*cking 22 years old! What will happen when I'm 32, or 42?
Are these levels too low and should I be this concerned? Thanks for the help.Last edited by Michael Red; 01-16-2014 at 11:48 PM.

Find another Dr. that is familiar and knowledgeable with TRT. Not all of them are.

That seems very low to me, especially for a 22 year old. But that is a common story that you're within range so the doctor won't do anything about it. In my case, I was able to go to a Low-T clinic and they got me on a program even though I was in range, but insurance won't pay for it since I am in range. However you seem very low for your age so maybe insurance would cover it.
I would get your full blood test results from your current doctor and take them to a T clinic or other doctor specializing in testosterone to see what they can do.

A good doctor wont go by range alone. I'm 50 and my for my age the range is 348 - 1197 total and 7.2 - 24 free.
Either way you are at the low end. Find another doctor.Last edited by lovbyts; 01-19-2014 at 03:59 AM.

Find a doctor who will determine the cause of your low T and address it, not just band aid it with testosterone unless it's your last resort. You need to be treated based on how you feel, not a number on a chart.

You have more issues then low test I think, you need to find a good doc that can work your thyroid and the ROOT cause of what's going on not just throw test at the problem. Find someone that understands T3/T4 and how it all works as a system, it sounds like you may not even know what you are taking as you say a pill, put a little effort into your health and figure this stuff out or at least find a doc that will.
I would work on TSH T3/T4 before even adding test, find a doc that understands that 1st.

no i know what i'm taking, i've researched and put a lot of thought into my health, i didnt write levothyroxine or the dosage, i said "a pill" as a time saver, but thanks for your concern and you are absolutely correct, i am trying to find the cause of my low t and i hope that the root lies in my thyroid dosage
