Blood work shows low vitamin D and low test

I got my blood work done last week and the nurse called today and told me that my results showed testosterone levels of 265. They did not test for Free Test or Estradiol levels. Cholesterol was a bit high (didn't give a number) and said my Vitamin D levels were very low, which he thought might be contributing to my symptoms. She didn't really give me a lot to go off of so I don't have a ton of details. I'm going to get a copy of the lab results tomorrow when I go back for a followup.

Anyway, form what I got from the nurse, my Dr. wants to start me on a prescription Vitamin D supplement of 50,000 IU per week for 16 weeks and the re-check my levels to see if that helps with some of my symptoms. Does this make any sense? Surely he can't think that the vitamin D is going to help my test levels.

Now I have to get additional blood work done. I'm kind of pissed that he didn't run what I asked him to run in the first place. I specifically asked for them to test Total AND Free test levels along with a Sensitive E2 Assay. Since the Dr. didn't order it, I asked for it at the lab but they said my Dr. had to approve the additional tests. Apparently the PA was on vacation all week and my request fell through the cracks. It's been too long since the draw so my blood is no good anymore to go back and run additional tests. No big deal, I'll give more.

I'll know more tomorrow after my follow up with the Dr.

Hi Rock and sorry we missed this. Yes, 265 is low and you need full BW to fully assess where the problem lies. In the Finding A Doc Sticky thread at the top of the forum is an example of BW. Get a copy of your current BW and post it up here for review. We'd be glad to look. Low T can be caused by a variety of issues that can be corrected, which should be your goal here.

Regarding Vit D they're talking about Drisdol, which is D2. It will help you but you could do the same with OTC D3. D is a hormone and improving your levels will lower your SHBG level thus allowing more Free T. But this by itself will not make enough difference for you but definitely start the protocol.

Remember to look at the BW posted. Really need to see a full thyroid panel, LH, FSH and everything else there.

    Find the cause!

How old are you Rock and what is your app BF%?
    Any AAS or pro-hormone use?

    Kelkel,

Thanks for the reply. I posted by BW in separate post on this page. I started the D2 yesterday because I figured it can't hurt. My Vitamin D level was 14.6 ng/mL....which is pretty low. I am 40 years old, 6'0" and 234 pounds and probably in the 18-19% range at this point. Have lost some muscle and gained some fat over the past 2 years. People still say I'm "jacked", but nowhere near where I was when I was 255-260. I have used AAS in the past, along with pro-hormones Superdrol and M-Drol; the last cycle was probably 4 years ago and that was the M-Drol. Earlier cycles (8-10 years ago) include a few Test E cycles and a cycle of d-bol, Sust and Deca . Never did the ancillaries correctly, or even at all with the Superdrol and M-Drol. Never ran HCG during cycle or an AI either.

I have a few posts in this forum, including my experience at the doctor's office today.
